Dear Sirs

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – INFORMATION REQUEST 5555

Case Reference FS50639855

I am sorry that you have had to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office regarding your request for information. Changes in staff at Wye Valley NHS Trust have led to some requests being overlooked and I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you. As instructed by the Information Commissioner’s Office Wye Valley NHS Trust responds:

We use T2 weighted and diffusion –weighted scans. We do not currently conduct routine multi-parametric scans to include dynamically enhanced scans. However, in June 2016, 3 patients were scanned (with applications support) with a view to including dynamic scans on a selected number of cases (selected only until our capacity increases to allow us to include as standard).

We are unable to give an exact % but we have scanned more patients pre-biopsy in 2016. Prostate referrals in general have increased. We currently do not differentiate pre-biopsy prostate bookings to the post biopsy in the Trust’s Radiology Information System.

Wye Valley NHS Trust has one static MRI scanner. Make – Phillips; Model Ingenia Omega; Magnetic Field Strength; 1.5 Tesla; Installed – December 2012; there is no current due date for replacement.

We are unable to provide any information on how many mpMRI scans before prostate biopsy are carried out per year. This at present is not held in a recorded form.

It is our intention to follow best practice once capacity is no longer limited and each referral has been clinically justified by a Consultant Radiologist. We do not currently have the resources to cope with any increase.
