Pastoral Transition

Frederick Church of the Brethren has been blessed with the ministry of Pastor Paul Mundey for 20 years. He has dedicated his life and heart to shepherd this flock with compassion and excellence.

As Pastor Paul gets ready to retire, the purpose of an intentional time of transition has several benefits:

  • It keeps the many ministries of FCOB, (worship, youth, etc) running smoothly.
  • It gives the leadership of the church time to understand the culture of the church, the direction of FCOB, and the gifts that are needed in the next leader.
  • It puts steps and processes in place to prepare for a new pastor. As FCOB determines the critical information for each ministry, the areas of success and the areas of challenge, it makes it possible to put a plan in place to “onboard” the next pastor with the most vital information in an optimal format. This allows them to start strong.
  • It allows Pastor Paul time to for “bridging;” giving him time to share his knowledge with key leaders, to insure key information in place for an Interim, and for him to focus on his key areas of contribution in this important chapter of his ministry.

The work of the Transition Team has been plan full and guided by prayer. To date they have:

  • Developed a vision for the transition process
  • Determined key, guiding Scripture for the transition process
  • Started determining / identifying areas of strengths and challenge in the church climate and ministries (which helps guide the “fit” decisions of the Interim and next Senior Pastor).
  • Identified the church culture (which helps guide the “fit” decisions of the Interim and next Senior Pastor).
  • Identified the key leadership and ministry requirements of the Interim Pastor
  • Developed, conducted and completed a Congregation Survey. The Results of this survey are being used to inform key aspects of the transition process.
