Job Title: Floater

General Job Summary:

Essential Job Function:

·  Report to the Program Coordinator for daily assignments.

·  Assist in daily implementation of the classroom schedule.

·  Utilize approved methods of behavior management in cooperation with teachers and the school’s policies.

·  Assist in feeding lunch to children as needed.

·  Participate in all activities to maintain the school’s policies, standards and licensing requirements.

·  Assist with special activities that may be at or away from the school

·  Assist in creating an orderly and productive classroom.

·  Perform classroom-related duties as listed on the school schedule and as requested by the Program Coordinator and classroom teacher.

·  Participate in the development of the school’s positive environment and services by sharing ideas, suggestions, and cooperating in problem-solving with creative suggestions.

·  Assist with after-lunch activity period as needed or assigned.

·  Comply with the policies and procedures as set forth in the Personnel Manual.

·  Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

·  Ability to work with young children in a patient and respectful manner

·  Knowledge of the needs of children and families and ability to meet these needs with consistency, understanding and warmth.

·  Willingness to participate in a multidisciplinary approach to education.

·  Commitment to learning and using augmentative communication systems as needed for enrolled children. Daily use of sign language is required.

·  Ability to communicate in a positive and productive manner with other staff members as well as volunteers and interns.

Requirements:

·  Completion of TB test at own expense within one year prior to starting.

Education and/or Experience:

·  High school education or the equivalent.

·  Responsible adult capable of understanding the needs of young children and

their families.

·  Minimum age 18.

·  Experience working with preschool and elementary age children

Physical Demands:

·  Ability to lift objects weighing no more than 40 pounds

·  Ability to bend, stoop and reach frequently

·  Ability to physically perform job functions

Work Environment/Environmental Condition:

·  Small classroom

·  Working in conditions that are sometimes emotionally demanding and physically draining.
