The Summit 2005 must answer the worlds needs
The Summit must respond to the MDG’s and the UN Reforms magnanimously
World peace and order is in serious jeopardy! The forces of disorder and violence continue unabated to escalate.
These serious and chronic problems confronting the world community need enlightened, thorough and resolute solutions, not mere palliatives and rhetorical gimmicks.
The widespread and deep-rooted conflicts demand collective response in all levels of government and non-governmental levels, inspired not by ideological or parochial euphemism but by magnanimity of the mind.
The UN community, as a living organization, is composed of sovereign nations, imbued with a noble vision and ideal: to attain the higher destiny and dignity of man.
This vision can only be realized under a regime of peace and order, fraternal equality and democracy, economic freedom and spiritual sanity.
The UN Millennium Development Goals provide the right answers, but the question is how they should be implemented effectively!
To attain these goals implementation should be embarked in two fronts: UN structural reforms, on one hand; and strengthening NON-UN structure, in the other.
It is true that the bulk of work in the UN has tremendously increased. The answer lies not by increasing manpower and organizational set-ups as these will bring more financial pressures, but rather reforms designed to enhance the competence, efficiency and agility of existing UN intra-structures.
The other is to strengthen and mobilize the UN Non-government structures, i.e. NGOs, into cohesive and working units, to act as Reconciliatory bridge, between sovereign Nations and the simple citizens of the world, inspired by the Motto –One World, One Soul.
The call for a UN Reconciliation Week underscores the banner in attaining the human dream: Peace on Earth.
- That UN NGOs shall implore the General Assembly to call for a UN World Reconciliation Week where
(a)cross sectoral open proceedings as forums for democratic civil
processes will be conducted; such as congresses, workshops, by UN NGOs worldwide;
(b)to foster cultural exchange and non-violent high mindedness, mutual
respect and tolerance, between men and Nations under the Motto: ONE WORLD, ONE SOUL.
- To mobilize NGOs as UN cohesive and effective arm in promoting peace and human dignity by way of magnanimous civil actions in all social, economic, political and cultural levels.
- Cross linking of NGO’s on a basis of reconciliation for a more effective implementation of the MDG’s and on creating synergies.
