SKILLS

Natural fluency in spanish. Fluency in english and french.
English to Spanish and French to Spanish freelance translator specializing in all materials related to science, specifically in chemistry, biology, and biochemistry, as well as education (K-12th) in these fields.

·  Skilled in MSOffice (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), OpenOffice, Dreamweaver, QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, HTML, Perl/CGI, MySQL.

·  Skilled in Wordfast.

·  System admistration skills with several flavors of Unix (Linux, Sun Solaris, SGI Irix, the MS Windows operating system, and MAC OS.

·  Skilled in Perl, CGI-scripting, and Web development.

·  Computational Chemistry Applications: Molecular Mechanics (MM3, MM2, Hyperchem, Macromodel, Pcmodel, Tinker), Semi-empirical Methods (CNDO, Mopac: AM1, MNDO, PM3), Quantum mechanics (Gaussian, GamessUS).

·  Developed scientific software in DOS, Windows and UNIX environments, with Perl, f77, and Borland Turbo Pascal.

·  Used POV Ray ray-tracing package for the construction and rendering of 3D graphics and animations for scientific data visualization.

·  Synthesis of small molecules.

·  2-D acrylamide gel electrophoresis for the separation and quantification of bacterial proteins.

EDUCATION

·  College of San Mateo, San Mateo, California, 50% Credits towards a Major in Graphic Design – 2003-2004.

·  Ph.D., Organic Chemistry, Chemistry Department, Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico (CINVESTAV-IPN) - June 1999.

·  M.Sc., Organic Chemistry, Chemistry Department at CINVESTAV-IPN - 1992.

·  BS, Pharmaceutical & Biological Chemistry, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Xochimilco, Mexico City - 1987.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

·  English to spanish translator for Ecolab through Sajan, Inc.of Material Safety Data Sheets and chemistry related documents, Nov. 2004 to date.

·  English to spanish translation of financial website (www.freightcapital.com), 2004.

·  Experience in scientific and technical English to Spanish translations since 1987, as a Graduate Student, February 1987 to October 1997, at the Chemistry Department, CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico City:

·  I was the curator and webmaster of the Latin American Chemistry Net (http://www.relaq.mx) from its creation in march1995 until October 1997. I created all the original content and images, both in Spanish and English using HTML and CGI scripts, deployed and administered the server, and supervised a database developer/Unix system administrator to develop a user registry and a majordomo-based discussion list.

·  I was a computational chemist for small molecules. I explained subtle stereochemical effects in series of substituted dioxanes and cyclohexanes correlating the experimental energy and NMR data with the electronic density and charges in atoms as calculated by semiempirical quantum mechanical methods (QM). I successfully reproduced and then predicted the conformational behavior of sets of molecules with statistical correlation methods. I calculated sets of parameters for molecular mechanics (MM) programs from calculated energies and geometries of several QM methods. Conformational behaviors were explained by means of MM and validated with QM calculations.

·  Developed software in Perl and Pascal for the analysis of the computational chemistry software results.

·  System Administrator Assistant: Performed tuning of user access to files and directories in Windows NT OS, configured workstations, setup a variety of hardware and peripherals, performed day-to-day troubleshooting, etc.

·  Created visualizations of the different conformational geometries and energies in substituted cyclohexanes, generating photorealistic images and animations as calculated from MM programs.

·  Research Assistant, from 1991 to 1992, at the Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology, CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico City.

·  Performed proteomic studies using 2-D acrylamide gel electrophoresis to profile intracellular proteins of the bacteria E. coli. The goal was to quantify the changes in protein expression upon infection of mutant strains of the bacteriophage lambda that produce arrest in protein biosynthesis.
