Core improvement classroom based training
forPractitioners working with Early Years Foundation Stage Children in schools and childcare settings
Day time and evening training charges are per attendee: registered childminders £20, private, voluntary and independent childcare settings and Children’s Centres £25, Schools £50, Academies £75. Evening sessions give an overview of the subject (£20pp).
Tea and coffee provided. For full day training please bring your own lunch.
All training sessions have a 50% cancellation charge per person.

Schools:
The three following topics will look at supporting children who are vulnerable to underachievement and the role of home learning in making the best possible progress. Practical examples will be shared from a national perspective and gap tasks will enable more sustainable learning and can be shared as a group to document the impact of the CPD.

Schools must commit to part 1 and 2 and will include a gap task
EYFS leads, Heads and Deputies / TBC / Middle and Senior Leads will be able to confidently articulate the quality of Early Years provision which they currently offer.
Leads will understand the crucial role of the environment and knowledgeable adults in supporting and extending deep level learning.
Leads will be able to highlight to OFSTED and Government the key strategies they use to identify any weaknesses in teaching as well as a strong strategy for improvement.

Schools must commit to part 1 and 2 and will include a gap task
EYFS leads, Heads and Deputies / TBC / Leaders will have a clear view of how self- evaluation drives improvement and the raising of standards across the EYFS and into school.
Leads will have an agreed range of techniques which critically evaluate provision and the quality of teaching as well as appropriate success criteria which will relate to further progress in school.
This will include the recognition that the whole school as well as the Early Years team need to have a shared understanding and consistent expectations of children`s desire to learn.
Leads will have developed their own style of summarising a strategic evaluation of Early Years data and observational knowledge of provision as the starting point for planning continuity of learning and the raising of standards.

Using Early Years outcomes to measure progress

Schools must commit to part 1 and 2.
EYFS leads, Heads and Deputies / TBC / Leaders will have increased confidence in tracking progress by using a variety of ways to evaluate data on children`s outcomes as well as how it reflects the quality and effectiveness of provision.
Techniques such as triangulation of appropriate evidence of deep level learning in the Early Years, mastery of their learning environment and sophisticated internal moderation strategies will be used to describe real progress.
The forensic analysis of Early Years data will be tailored made to the particular trends and gaps of their school and barriers to learning and further progress are more easily identified.

- provide a clear understanding of the principles, content and requirements of the revised EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements and highlight the recent changes and support practitioners to consider the implications of these changes for their practice and any further training or support they might need.

- Introduction to the key elements of the role of the SENCO.
- Overview of the process and practice in supporting early identification and meeting individual children’s needs through high quality practice.
- Introduction to SEN support and the Graduated approach; ‘Asses, Plan, Do, Review’.
- Importance of involving parents and children in planning for agreed outcomes.
- To understand the duties and responsibilities for children with SEND and their families under the SEND Code of Practice (2015), The Equality Act (2010) and Early Years foundation stage (2014).
- To understand the importance of high quality provision as the starting point for supporting all children’s learning and development.
- To understand the system of ‘Assess, Plan, Do and Review and locally available tools such as ‘Bridging the gap’ and other national resources such as Development matters.
- To consider existing policies and approaches relating to all aspects of supporting children with SEND and their families.
To make a personal action plan to develop the whole settings approach to including children with SEND.

- Updates on legislation and approaches to providing inclusive early years services.
- Consider the role of all practitioners in partnership with the SENCo in delivering inclusive practice.
- Early identification and intervention, a whole setting approach.
- Partnership with parents; understanding parental perspectives.
- Listening to children and person centred thinking and planning in the early years.
- To understand the recent changes to the SEND code of practice (2014) and the existing duties under the Equality Act (2010) and Revised EYFS (2014).
- To gain confidence in the role of influencing and leading other setting practitioners in relation to inclusive practice.
- To be able to support and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of all setting based practitioners in carrying out their roles in early identification and taking action for their key children.
- To support and develop the confidence and skills of all practitioners in understanding and valuing parental perspectives and involvement in working in partnership for achieving the best outcomes for their child.
- To recognize and promote the importance of involving and listening to the voice and views of the child in everyday practice.
Each attendee to develop a personal action plan to include a review of setting policies and give a brief overview of their plan/action taken on the second day.
