For trucks or buses with kingpins larger than 1-1/4” remove the bushing from the head of the kingpin press. For trucks or buses with King Pins larger than 7/8” but under 1-1/4” leave the bushing in the head. Always be sure the kingpin or cap over the kingpin is not larger than and will go through the bushing in the head.

Remove the cap covering the lower end of the kingpin. Then back out the 1-1/2” pressure screw until the end is about even with the forging. Hold the tool by the top forging with the pressure screw down and put it over the spindle.

Place one side rod behind the spindle face, or both, if necessary to make the press line up with the kingpin.

Select from the 2”, 4”, 6” or 8” pilots the longest one that can be used to make your press operate close to the spindle. Use this pilot to start the kingpin and push it part way out. Then change to a longer pilot and finish pushing it out.
