PJAS checklist
For the Region 1A meeting:
_____ Have you made sure that you are available and have no conflicts on the morning of the competition?
_____ Did you complete the appropriate paperwork and hand it in with the fee?
_____ Have you read the PJAS rules?
_____ Have you read the PJAS rubric?
_____ Did you attend a preliminary meeting for students entering the competition or did you meet personally with Mrs. G?
_____ Did you prepare a rough draft of your power point? Does it include the following slides?
- A title page

- Question, problem, or purpose?
- Background information – use bullets
- Hypothesis (PJAS prefers a single hypothesis rather than multiple hypotheses)
- Materials list
- Procedure – bulleted or in flow chart form
- Slides of any apparatus or pictures
- Slide stating:
- Independent variable
- Dependent variable
- Controls
- Constants
- Data slides
- Tables
- Summary Graphs
- Statistical explanation slide (if applicable)
- Conclusion slide
- Was your hypothesis supported?
- Sources of error
- Things you would do differently
- Ideas for further research
- Reference slide
_____ Has Mrs. G looked at your power point and made suggestions or corrections?
_____ Have you sent a revised power point to Mrs. G?
_____ Have you placed your power point on the common drive in the HChem folder?
_____ Have you made note cards for your presentation?
_____ Have you practiced your presentation using the power point?
_____ Is your presentation under 10 minutes in length?
_____ Have you practiced your presentation in front of Mrs. G and/or the class at least once?
_____ Have you made sure that you have NO PROPS?
_____ Have you become so familiar with your note cards that you only need to glance at them every once in a while?
_____ Did you print out your presentation at least 24 hours before the competition? Be sure that you are using the correct transparency films for your printer!
For the State Meeting
Immediately after the region meeting:
_____ Did you hand in all necessary forms and fees before the due date?
One month prior to the state meeting:
_____ Did you make any corrections and/or revisions to your presentation that the judges from the region may have suggested?
_____ Have you gone over your presentation at least once or twice to keep it fresh in your mind? Go over everything at least once a week until the week of the competition.
One week prior to the state meeting:
_____ Have you begun to memorize your presentation?
_____ Have you gone over the presentation at least once a day?
_____ Have you practiced your presentation in front of Mrs. G?
_____ Have you practiced your presentation in front of your family or friends?
_____ Have you double checked your departure and arrival times?
_____ Have you packed appropriately for PennState?
_____ Are you proud of your final product?
