CONSTITUTION

For The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club

ARTICLE I: Name and Objectives

A.  The name of the organization shall be The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club (Women’s Glee Club).

B.  The purpose of The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club shall be:

  1. To rehearse and perform a variety of fine repertoire;
  2. To develop an understanding of many choral styles, spanning the Renaissance to Modern periods;
  3. To develop and demonstrate the skills necessary for a successful ensemble;
  4. To develop and share a love of choral singing with one another and each audience;
  5. To represent, at every opportunity, The Ohio State University’s long tradition of quality ensembles.

C.  All members shall be required to contribute time, effort, and their choral experience with the general body.

ARTICLE II: Membership

A.  All female students who are eligible for membership in registered student organizations as described in the Revised Code of Student Conduct shall be eligible for membership in The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club.

B.  Prospective members shall audition for the director (faculty advisor) before the second rehearsal of the first quarter in which they wish to participate.

C.  The director may request a second audition after membership has already been granted, or dismiss a member at her discretion.

ARTICLE III: Officers and Responsibilities

A.  President

  1. Shall be a member with no less than three quarters’ experience with Women’s Glee Club.
  2. Shall conduct all meetings of the general membership and of the executive board.
  3. Shall supervise the group and officers, as necessary.
  4. Shall delegate duties as necessary.
  5. Shall serve as representative and spokesperson for Women’s Glee Club at School of Music, University-wide, and other functions, as necessary.

B.  Vice President

  1. Shall be a member with no less than three quarters’ experience in Women’s Glee Club.
  2. Shall perform all duties of the office of the President in the President’s absence.
  3. Shall aid the President in completion of duties as deemed appropriate.
  4. Shall be responsible for uniform distribution to all new members.

C.  Secretary

  1. Shall conduct all meetings of the general membership and the executive council in the absence of the President and Vice President.
  2. Shall distribute the handbook and other handouts to all members.
  3. Shall oversee the creation and distribution of all communications to the general membership, including written and electronic notices.

D.  Treasurer

  1. Shall assess and collect quarterly dues and uniform fees.
  2. Shall collect all other fees and dues as necessary.
  3. Shall maintain all financial records and monetary transactions.

E.  Historian

  1. Shall create a scrapbook of the activities of Women’s Glee Club during the year.
  2. Shall collect photographs of Women’s Glee Club during the year.
  3. Shall keep records of membership numbers, concert dates, and trips.

F.  Webmaster

  1. Shall be responsible for maintaining and updating the official Women’s Glee Club website. (www.osu.edu/students/glee)

G.  Public Relations / Fundraising Committee

  1. Shall oversee the advertising and fundraising projects of Women’s Glee Club.
  2. Shall execute fundraisers throughout the year.
  3. Shall manage the sales of the Women’s Glee Club 100th Anniversary cd.

H.  Faculty Advisor (Director)

  1. Shall be a faculty member of The Ohio State University.
  2. Shall conduct auditions for all prospective members and act as the senior authority for membership in The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club.
  3. Shall meet all requirements for organization advisers as determined by The Ohio State University Office of Student Activities.
  4. Shall serve as regular conductor of general meetings of the body.
  5. Shall appoint section leaders by the second meeting of each quarter, or as necessary.

ARTICLE IV: Constitution Amendment Procedures

A.  Any amendment to this constitution shall require two readings, separated by at least one week, prior to its passage.

B.  A 2/3 vote of the body shall be required for passage of any amendment to this constitution.


ARTICLE V: Enactment

A.  This constitution shall be effective upon the approval of a simple majority of the executive board and the approval of a single majority of the general body.


BYLAWS

For The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club

I. Meetings

A. Meetings of the general membership shall be held at 12:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week of regularly scheduled classes at The Ohio State University, for Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters.

B. Quarterly retreats will be scheduled for one evening or morning each quarter.

C. Meetings of the executive board shall be scheduled by the President or director (faculty advisor).

II. Attendance

A.  All members are required to attend all meetings; no unexcused absences will go unnoticed.

B.  Three days tardy per quarter is equivalent to one absence.

C.  All requests for an excused absence must be submitted to the director (faculty advisor) by the second Friday of the quarter in which the absences will occur.

D.  Any unexcused absences will result in a dropped letter grade.

E.  Medical documentation is required in the event of an illness.

F.  After three absences, members will be dismissed from The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club at the discretion of the faculty advisor (director).

G.  Members must have a valid excuse, approved by the faculty advisor (director), for all missed performances or dress rehearsals.

H.  All attendance issues are at the discretion of the faculty advisor (director).

III. Performance

A.  The general body shall perform at university events and special choral events both within and outside of The Ohio State University.

B.  The frequency and logistics of performances shall be left to the discretion of the faculty advisor (director) and the executive board.

C.  Each member shall be responsible for maintaining their music in a black binder, and have that binder at each performance.

D.  Performance attire shall consist of the following:

  1. Women’s Glee Club black gown
  2. Black dress shoes. Patent leather, “chunky” shoes, and those with heels higher than 1.5” are not acceptable.
  3. Black pantyhose
  4. Women’s Glee Club pearl necklace
  5. Hairstyle away from the face.

E.  No member shall wear excessive make-up for performances.

F.  No member shall wear any perfume for performances, in consideration of those members with allergies.

IV. Expenses

A.  Annual dues shall be considered a mandatory “social fee” to be used for retreats and special events.

B.  Each member shall pay the annual dues ($15) in one payment at the beginning of each academic year, or in three installments.

  1. The installments of $5 each, shall be paid to the treasurer by the sixth rehearsal of each quarter.
  2. A $0.50 late fee will be assessed for each class day a payment is late.

C.  All members must purchase performance attire. Some items may be available for a lesser price, on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact a member of the executive board for more information.

D.  During a tour, members may be asked to pay travel expenses and/or meal expenses. Some meals shall be provided by a host; some travel and meal expenses shall be paid for by Women’s Glee Club funds.

V. Elections

A. Nominations for elected officers shall take place the Wednesday or Friday of the penultimate week of classes each spring quarter.

B. Elections of the elected officers for the next academic year shall take place the Wednesday of the last week of class each spring quarter.
