ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR

Australians all let us rejoice,

For we are young and free,

We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;

Our home is girt by sea.

Our land abounds in nature’s gifts

Of beauty rich and rare;

In history’s page, let every stage

Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,

“Advance Australia Fair”

GOD DEFEND NEW ZEALAND

E Ihowa Atua

O nga iwi matou ra

Ata whakarongona

Me aroha noa

Kia hua ko te pai

Kia tau to atawhai

Manaakitia mai

Aotearoa

God of nations at Thy feet

In the bonds of love we meet.

Hear our voices, we entreat,

God Defend our Free Land.

Guard Pacific’s triple star,

From the shafts of strife and war.

Make her praises heard afar,

God Defend New Zealand.

Lest We Forget

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them

O GOD OUR HELP

O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home;

Beneath the shadow of Thy Throne,

Thy Saints have dwelt secure;

Sufficient is Thine Arm alone,

And our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,

Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God,

To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in Thy sight

Are like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the night

Before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,

Bears all its sons away;

They fly forgotten, as a dream

Dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Be Thou our guard while troubles last,

And our eternal home.

The guard provided for today’s parade and service is from 3 Field Troop, of 2 Field Squadron, RNZE. 3 Field Troop has a charter with the Council, which bestows on it the freedom of the Ward of Akaroa.

ABIDE WITH ME

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;

the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.

When other helpers fail and comforts flee,

Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;

earth’s joys grow dim; it’s glories pass away;

Change and decay in all around I see;

O thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need thy presence every passing hour,

What but thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?

who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be;

Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless;

ills have no weight, and tears not bitterness.

Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, they victory?

I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes;

shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.

Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;

In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

A collection will be taken up during this Hymn, specifically for maintenance of the War Memorial.
