Would you like to improve your ASL skills in your classroom?

This training is for teachers or other professional staffwho work with deaf & hard of hearing children or adults in the state of Kentucky, and who want to improve their ASL skills. This training will maintain a full language immersion approach in ASL, with no spoken English/no voice, in a fun and inviting atmosphere! This is not a workshop to learn sign language but to refine the skills you have in place.Approval for attendance requires your school principal’s signature below. Registration Deadline: July 1, 20l7.

When and How?

The ASL Immersion will be held Thursday, July 13th through Saturday, July 15th, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Daily classroom teaching will be held at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Kerr Hall at 303 South Second Street, Danville, KY 40423. Certificates will be awarded for professional development. Hours will be calculated by daily “sign in and out” times for class. Certificates will be mailed to all participants following the training.

Who’s Teaching?

Instructors will be faculty and staff from Eastern Kentucky University’s ASL program.

Live too far? Free Housing! Dorm Accommodations

Dormitory housing will be provided at KSD, Middleton Hall, double occupancy (KSD 202 South 2nd Street, Danville, KY 40422). You will need to bring all bedding and toiletries as outlined below.

Registration and Dorm accomodations are free of charge to participants and are covered via a grant from the Kentucky Department of Education.Due to budget constraints, food service will NOT be provided as we have traditionally done in the past. Meals and travel are on your own. Check with your principal about per diem to cover meal and travel costs.

Check-in for dorm rooms will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pmin Middleton Hall on Wednesday, July 12th. We will have a greeter to meet you and check you in to your room. All dorm rooms are double occupancy. It will be necessary for you to bring a complete set of toiletries including sheets, blankets, pillows, soap, towels, etc. Also, if you need any special accommodations regarding accessibility, please let us know and we will try our best to make sure they are provided. Departure will be after classes are complete on Saturday afternoon. All rooms need to be cleaned up, trash taken out and keys returned to the greeter Saturday afternoon by 5:00pm.

Classroom check-in will be on Thursday, July 13that 8:00am - 8:30am at Kerr Hall Lobby. Daily classes will meet Thursday-Saturday from 8:30am – 4:30pm. A Deaf Community social will be held on Friday evening, details will be provided on site.
