CEMO LABORATORY TESTING VOUCHER
For Non-Thoroughbred Stallions
Contagious equine metritis (CEM) is caused by the bacterium Taylorella equigenitalis and infection poses a risk to both the Thoroughbred and non-Thoroughbred breeding industries, as highlighted following recent UK disease incursions. To encourage wider routine screening as a preventative measure in non-Thoroughbred horses, the HBLB is funding free laboratory testing for non-Thoroughbred stallions that have not been previously tested. Funding is limited and is offered on a first come basis.
Vouchers may only be redeemed for stallions that have not previously been tested for CEM, and this must be certified by both the stud/owner and veterinary surgeon. All fields below must be completed and signed by the stallion owner/keeper and attending veterinary surgeon.
Swabs must be collected by your veterinary surgeon from the urethra, urethral fossa and penile sheath, plus pre-ejaculatory fluid when possible. Swabs must arrive at the designated laboratory with 48 hours of collection.
