37 SCIENCE ACADEMY STUDENTS NAMED AP SCHOLARS

MERCEDES – The College Board has awarded 37 seniors attending The Science Academy of South Texas (Sci Tech) the status of AP Scholar for their exceptional achievement in the Advanced Placement (AP) program.

The students all took and passed at least three AP exams earning college credit after completing college level courses.

Two seniors, Sumit Gogia of Harlingen and Patrick Kim of McAllen, earned National AP Scholar by scoring a 4 or higher on at least eight AP exams. Gogia and Kim also earned the title of AP Scholar with Distinction.

The AP Scholar with Distinction was also awarded to nine more students who scored at least a 3.5 on all taken AP exams and scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams. These students include seniors: Alejandro Acero of Weslaco, Jonathan Berg of Brownsville, Lorenzo Garcia of Mercedes, Nancy Leyva of San Juan, Dylan Weeks of Edinburg and James Alaniz, Nicholas Hanemann, Shubhodeep Mukherji and Iris Tseng of McAllen.

Ten seniors achieved AP Scholar with Honor for having scored at least a 3.25 on all taken AP exams and a score of a 3 or higher on four or more these exams. The students to achieve this are: Alejandro Cantu of Mission, Diego Castilleja of Brownsville, Ricardo Escobar of Weslaco, Roberto Lopez of Harlingen, Roberto Contreras and Alejandro Villarreal of Edinburg and Sohaib Mehkri, Monica Merino, Abraham Rodriguez and Audrey Wright of McAllen.

Students who reached AP Scholar had to score a 3 or higher on at least three AP exams. The seniors who accomplished this award are: Victoria Arteaga of Mission, Kayleigh Flores of Mercedes, Cristina Garcia of McAllen, Adrian Guerrero of Mission, Savannah Hicks of Rancho Viejo, Juan Carlos Lago of Edinburg, Jessie Manzewitsch of Palmview, Jacob Oestreich of Weslaco, Kathryn Loveless, Christian Salazar and James Wollenburg of Harlingen and Alejandra Perez, Jessica Saenz, Ana Smith, Mariafernanda Trevino and Nancy Yi of Brownsville.

Sci Tech is one of four high schools at South Texas Independent School District.
