Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board wins the CHKS data quality (Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) award for third year running
Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board has won the CHKS Top Hospitals programme data quality (Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) award 2014 for the third year running. The CHKS Top Hospitals awards celebrate the success of healthcare providers across the UK and are awarded to acute trusts for their achievements in healthcare quality and improvement.
CHKS used its 25 years of experience in the analysis of hospital data to decide the indicators on which each of the Top Hospitals programme awards are judged. Awards are made on the basis of an analysis of publicly available datasets and every NHS acute trust is included.
The data quality award recognises the importance of clinical coding and data quality, and the essential roles they play in ensuring appropriate patient care. It is based on a range of coding indicators, including coding related to primary diagnosis.
Jason Harries, managing director, CHKS said: “This year we celebrate our 25th anniversary so it is a fitting occasion to reward excellence in the NHS. Our data quality award highlights those trusts that share a commitment to driving improvement and engendering a culture of excellence throughout their organisations. It is a credit to the staff at Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board that it has won this award.”
The CHKS Top Hospitals programme awards were held in London on 13th May and were attended by over 200 guests including leaders from across the healthcare sector including: NHS England, Monitor, the Trust Development Authority and acute trusts.

The CHKS data quality (Celtic) award is a national award for outstanding performance in clinical coding and data quality. It is based on three indicators relating to coding:
· Depth of coding (not case mix adjusted)
· Percentage of coded episodes with signs and symptoms as a primary diagnosis
· Percentage of uncoded episodes
