Newark Police Seek the Public’s Help in Locating Driver
Who Fled from Stolen Car After Crashing into Church
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that Newark Police and Firefighters responded to an incident involving a vehicle striking Community of Chapel Ministries, located at 387 Hawthorne Avenue, today.
At approximately 3:17 p.m., a stolen Nissan Altima struck the church, which was occupied by nine individuals. Two victims were transported to Beth Israel Hospital for evaluation and released.
The driver fled prior to the arrival of police and firefighters and no description of the driver was provided. While police are actively searching for the suspect, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him or her from our streets.
The investigation is continuing. All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
