Local Author and Children’s Book Illustrator Scott Gustafson to Appear in Woodstock for Book Signing

Who: Acclaimed author and children’s book illustrator Scott Gustafson
What: Chicago’s Scott Gustafson will be on hand to sign his newly published Favorite Nursery Rhymes from Mother Goose, undoubtedly one of the best-illustrated versions of Mother Goose in decades. A 100-page celebration of the best-known and best-loved nursery rhymes, with fantastic illustrations by Gustafson, Favorite Nursery Rhymes from Mother Goose includes 45 rhymes ranging from the universally known (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Peter Piper, Little Jack Horner, Three Blind Mice and Little Boy Blue) to the somewhat familiar (Hickety, Pickety, Little Tommy Tittlemouse, The North Winds). Gustafson’s fantastic illustrations play on themes both real and imagined in each verse.
Trained at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and Columbia College in Illinois, Gustafson found his first artistic inspiration in Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons, as well as in a old copy of The Boy’s King Arthur and in illustrations by NC Wyeth, Arthur Rackman, Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish. His classical, opulent approach to illustration elicited an immediate response and soon his work appeared in magazines, including the Saturday Evening Post. He has illustrated such classics as The Night Before Christmas, The Nutcracker and Peter Pan, as well as original titles, Alphabet Soup (an ABC book), Animal Orchestra (a counting book) and the bestseller Classic Fairy Tales, which won the Chesley Award for best interior book illustration from the Association of Fiction and Fantasy Artists.
