FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE & DISTRIBUTION

FREEDOM AND LIBERATION

The freedom of our spirit, an inner liberation

On Thursday, March 20, 2008 Vishwa Nirmala Dharma Educational Society, together with co-sponsors UBC Robson Square, Fairchild Radio and Co-Op Radio will hold the Canadian premiere screening of the movie “Freedom and Liberation”. This film is the biography of a living saint, Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, the most extraordinary spiritual being of all time, who has brought en masse Self-Realization to humanity. The film is about her vision of a free world, which goes beyond national freedom to individual peace and inner liberation.

This event is part of the global celebration of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi’s 85th Birthday and in Vancouver it will take place at UBC/Robson Square Theatre. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with live music, dancing and a formal welcome followed by the film, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. Culmination of the evening’s program will be the experience of Self-Realization for everyone, followed by tea, coffee and birthday cake. Admission is free and open to all.

In 1970, Shri Mataji developed a method to give people Self-Realisation - the connection with their own spirit. She showed people how to reach the state of meditation and find the deep silence inside which is thoughtless awareness.

“… we are here to get our freedom, to get the freedom for our spirit, to make our spirit free from our greed, lust, from your anger, from our conditionings, from our terrible ego,” Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

The documentary film is the work of German director, Carolin Dassel, who shows many aspects of this adventurous life in a very subtle way. The timeless impressions, the composed music, as well as the original locations and archive material, conciliate an atmosphere of a meditative authenticity.

The film will be shown in many countries around the world, having just premiered in Germany.

Synopsis summary

Inspired by her political parents and Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi dedicated her youth to the resistance against the British Empire for Indian freedom.

Throughout her entire life she kept to her vision − a vision which goes beyond the political freedom of her motherland, a vision of inner freedom and transformation of each individual, a vision that is worth fighting for and that would take her to the five continents giving thousands of lectures and offering Self-Realisation en masse.

Shri Mataji is a two time nominee for the Noble Peace Price, a Member of Honour of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St Petersburg and has been a guest speaker at many events including the International Women’s Conference in Beijing.
