The Institute of Technology Tallaght caters for a student population of approximately 5,600 students, comprising 3,100 full-time and 2,500 part-time students. It is the only third level college in South Dublin County which is one of the most densely populated and highly industrialised regions in Ireland.

Position of Marketing & Communications Manager

The Institute has a vacancy for the above post which will be filled on a permanent or fixed term contract basis.

Essential academic qualifications and professional experience:

Applicants will hold an appropriate primary honours degree (NQF level 8 with a 2.2 honours classification or higher) in Marketing or an equivalent qualification, together with a minimum of five-years post graduate relevant work experience in the field of marketing or communications or public/media relations.

Desirable academic qualifications and professional experience

In addition to the above, applicants will ideally have the following:

·  Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in marketing, communications, or equivalent, at NQF level 9 or above.

·  Demonstrated leadership, management, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

·  Experience of leading change, proven ability to win support for ideas and build networks.

·  Highly developed organisational and IT skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

·  Leading the development, management and implementation of an integrated marketing and communications strategy for:

·  Undergraduate and post graduate programmes, both full time and part time

·  Professional courses

·  Bespoke Industry programmes

·  Schools Liaison Activities

·  Ongoing management and development of the Institute’s brand identity and reputation. This includes contributing to the Institute’s submissions to the various Education Ranking systems

·  Liaise and advise on the Institutes International Student recruitment strategy and activities, particularly in relation to developing, resourcing and delivering structures for attracting International Students.

·  Provision of professional marketing and communications expertise to the Institute’s Schools and Departments , including advising on marketing and communications opportunities, to ensure a professional and integrated approach to marketing and communications

·  Ensuring that marketing, promotional, publicity, communications and digital technology-enabled activities are consistent with corporate brand requirements and visual identity guidelines.

·  Identification of, and making recommendations on, effective and appropriate marketing opportunities for Institute of Technology Tallaght, including those presented by online and social media. Overall management of the vision and development of the Institute’s website and social media presence.

·  Management of the Marketing and Communications budgets and staff.

·  Management of relevant external consultancy providers, e.g. public relations consultants, advertising agencies, etc., as required.

·  Development and supervision of appropriate systems to handle media relations including provision of support and training to all staff dealing with the media and on occasion acting as spokesperson for Institute of Technology Tallaght, as required.

·  Management of the communication aspects of a range of Institute events and projects (including open days, conferring ceremonies, community days, launches, visiting dignitaries etc.) and advice on maximising the marketing potential of such events, as appropriate.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the President and/or other Senior Management

Salary and conditions

The Salary scale for this post is from €66,561 to €84,684 and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Pay Policy. Appointments to this post, save in very exceptional circumstances will be made at point 1 of the salary scale. All new appointees to the Public Service will be made at point 1 of the scale.

Annual leave entitlement will be 30 days per annum. A minimum of a 37 hour working week (net of rest breaks) will apply and your hours of attendance will be agreed prior to commencing duty in the post. Flexibility will be required as attendance in addition to 37 hours per week may be required from time to time given the nature of the post.

Citizenship / Permit Requirement:

Eligibility to compete is open to candidates who are citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. The EEA comprises member states of the European Union along with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Pensions

The appointee will become a member of the appropriate public service pension scheme. Broadly, if the appointee:

(a) served in a public service body as a pensionable public servant on 31 December 2012, then the terms of the Education Sector Superannuation Scheme shall apply to the appointee; or

(b) first serves in a public service body as a pensionable public servant on or after 1 January 2013 or has not, prior to appointment, served in a public service body as a pensionable public servant, then the provisions of the Public Service Pensions Single Scheme will apply.

As the rules relating to membership of these schemes contain a number of exceptions, if the appointee has any queries as to which pension scheme provisions apply to them, these should be raised as soon as practicable after appointment with the HR Manager. The appointee shall be obliged to make pension contributions in accordance with the rules of the applicable scheme and the appointee shall be subject to the applicable scheme’s provisions as amended from time to time.

Proposed merger of Three Institutes

Please note that it is planned that three institutions in the Dublin region – Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown (ITB) and Institute of Technology, Tallaght (ITTD) will merge into a single institution to form the new Dublin Institute of Technology, prior to seeking designation as a Technological University for Dublin. Thereafter staff may be assigned or re-assigned to any of the buildings / centres in the new Dublin Institute of Technology, at the discretion of the Institute.

Please note that the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. The post will be filled on either a permanent or fixed term contract basis.
