Tees

  • PO has worked well with a new school this year Egglescliffe
  • Assembly complete for next year. Tasters pending
  • CDO delivering Go Row Indoor Event for Northfield and Blakeston schools in November
  • Tees juniors flourishing. Junior section at capacity

DARC.

  • Club awaiting refurbishment of boats.
  • Junior numbers at a high; maybe over 100
  • Capacity to take more for PO will be a challenge
  • Club involved with Durham Johnson, Durham High School for Girls, Durham Gilesgate and Tudhoe Grange.
  • Challenge as CSC comes to the end of the contract

Tyne.

  • CSC has been working with several schools including Kenton, Walbottle and All Saints amongst others
  • Junior numbers are high and near capacity
  • Challenge as CSC comes to the end of contract

Chester-le-Street

  • Gerry Sharpe appointed as CSC
  • CDO and CSC have met with local PDM for the 4 local schools.
  • Evidence of large numbers of club juniors
  • Windemere training camp a real success in August 2008
  • Club hosted successful Junior Sculling Camp on 27th-29th October

Cambois

  • Junior section continues to expand through links with Paul Woodall (PDM Blyth and Bedlington)
  • Junior numbers have increased rapidly over the year

City of Sunderland

  • Link with Grindon hall as faded
  • Club now linked with St Anthony’s School.
  • Ernie Beattie making links with the sports colleges in the region
  • Need more adult members to service these junior numbers.

Hexham

  • Recent rapid growth in junior numbers from 0 to 16.
  • CSC has made stronger links with Haydon Bridge High School.
  • Club has found volunteer coaches to look after budding junior section.

  • 2006 Open L2 Course. 5 candidates assessed, 5 failed to complete
  • 2006 DCR L2 course. 5 candidates assessed 1 failed to complete.
  • 2007 DCR L2 course. 6 candidates assessed, 1 failed to complete
  • 2007/8 Open L2 course. 2 candidates have completed
  • Total assessed = 18 / 47, failed to complete = 7 / 47, pending = 22 / 47
  • October DCR Level 2 completed November 15th
  • DI for 20 candidates run in November 2007 in Easington.
  • DI for 9 candidates run in May 2008 at Ponteland HS
  • January 2009 L2 course half full.
  • Plans for 3 more L2 courses to run in region before Nov 2009

  • Talkin Tarn certificate delivered
  • Durham folder audited October 2008. Club resubmitting this month
  • Cambois restarted accreditation process. Nearing completion.
  • Hexham started accreditation. Work progressing
  • Tyne United have begun accreditation procedure
  • Tyne RC folder audited October 2008. Club resubmitting in New Year
  • Tees and CLS to be audited in New Year. Resubmission needed next year
  • Sunderland University accreditation certificate delivered
  • Northumbria University now also working towards accreditation.
  • Two other University clubs are working towards accreditation; St Mary’s, Van Mildert.

  2. Berwick ARC. Now linked with Berwick High School. Club flourishing especially on the female side. Successful Trades Four Regatta. Now working with Paul Jones (SDO) to role out coach education courses
  3. Cambois RC. Junior section flourishing. School – Club links continue to develop. Plans for boathouse extension being submitted to funding bodies. ClubMark nearing completion.
  4. Chester-le-Street. Club continues growing. Space increasingly seen as a problem with growing membership. Club can now field several eights from Men and women. Coaching numbers increasing as members go through L2 award.
  5. Hexham RC. Application for club redevelopment in partnership with QEHS and Hexham Canoe Club submitted. Junior section growth. ClubMark accreditation ongoing
  6. City of Sunderland RC. Increasing adult membership needed.
  7. Durham ARC. Junior numbers enormous. Legacy planning for the CSC end of contract progressing. Club Membership has increased from 100 to 250 on the back f the rebuild.
  8. St Leonard’s School. Began rowing again in April / May. School now looking for year on year organic growth starting with Year 7 and 8 and building cohorts from the bottom up. Volunteer coaching increasing.
  9. Talkin Tarn. Lease and proposed rebuild of boathouse still on hold. Numbers stable.
  10. Tees RC. Recreational bid successful. Two recreational quads purchased through CCDP funding. Junior section near capacity. Club membership gaining steadily. Club has accessed £100,000 for boats this year. WCS program now nearing practical maximum.
  11. Tynemouth RC. Recreational bid successful. Two recreational quads and three singles (?) purchased through CCDP funding. Club now needs to run L2R courses to increase active membership
  12. Tyne RC. CCDP funding awarded and steps built. Reaccreditation process ongoing. Tyne Partnership dormant
  13. Tyne United. Lease signed for land on Gateshead side at Newburn. Access road built. Steps to be built imminently. First boat shed arriving about New Year. ClubMark accreditation begun. Strong links with Gateshead Council
