The PermaPorch Railing system is made up of several components that are all brought together to make an attractive, functional, easily installed, long lasting, and low maintenance product for both new construction and remodeling.

The PermaPorch Railing System can be easily installed to conform to the International One- and Two- Family Dwelling Code as published in cooperation with the International Code Congress, Building Officials and Code Administrators and the Southern Building Code Congress International.

1.4SUBMITTALS

1.5DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
  1. Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.

1.6PROJECT CONDITIONS

  1. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

1.7WARRANTY

  1. Railing: 25 years against defects in material and workmanship.
  1. Factory-Applied Topcoat to Railing: 10 years against defects in material and workmanship.
  1. Posts: 10 years against defects in material and workmanship, assuming proper installation.

2.1MANUFACTURERS

  1. Railing: HB&G's PermaPorch railing; durable; low maintenance; compliant with requirements of ICC International Residential Code for One and Two Family Dwellings.

  1. Pre-Fabricated Sections: Pre-assembled; includes installation kit; section lengths of 4 feet (1219 mm), 6 feet (1829 mm), or 8 feet (2438 mm).

  1. Porch Posts: HB&G PermaPost; polyethylene shell surrounding galvanized steel pipe and polyurethane foam filling; load-bearing; durable; low maintenance; complies with ASTM A 500.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete one of the following two sizes.

  1. Size: 4 inches (102 mm), nominal; 20 gauge (1 mm) pipe wall thickness; 1,300 pounds (590 kg) maximum load.
  1. Size: 5 inches (127 mm), nominal; pipe: 13 gauge (2.4 mm) pipe wall thickness; 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) maximum load.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete one of the following two heights.

  1. Height: 8 feet (2,438 mm).
  1. Height: 9 feet (2,743 mm).

2.4ACCESSORY MATERIALS

  1. Provide necessary hardware and fasteners for a complete installation of railing.
  2. Provide support blocks per manufacturer's recommendations.
  3. Newel Installation: Skirting; brackets; wood or concrete screws.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Painting is optional; delete paragraph if not painting. All railing and posts are pre-finished white.

  1. Primer for Posts: One light, even coat of top quality exterior latex primer.
  2. Primer for Posts: One light, even coat of top quality exterior oil-based primer.
  3. Primer for Railing: None.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete one of the following two paint types. Selected paint type must match primer type. Do not use dark colors of paint. Dark colors have L values of 56 to 0. L is a measure of lightness of an object; range is from 0 (black) to 100 (white).

  1. Top Coats: Three light, even coats of high quality exterior latex paint.
  2. Top Coats: Three light, even coats of high quality exterior oil-based paint.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

  1. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
  1. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2PREPARATION

  1. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
  1. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3INSTALLATION

  1. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
  1. Install railing and baluster system level and plumb with minimal joints between components and between railing and newels, posts, or columns.

3.4PROTECTION

  1. Protect installed products until completion of project.
  1. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
