SAMPLE SALARY NOTIFICATION LETTER

FOR JUNE AND NEXT FISCAL YEAR

For Current Faculty, Academic Staff, and Limited Appointees

on 12-month basis

Dear

Due to the severe economic conditions and the resulting budget deficit facing the state of Wisconsin, the governor has proposed that the second phase of the pay plan that was due to become effective with the June pay period (paid July 1) be rescinded and no merit pay increases for the next biennium (2009-2011). On May 27, 2009, the state legislature’s Joint Committee on Employment Relations (JCOER) voted to officially approve these proposals.

These measures are a painful example of what workers across the country are experiencing. We will do our best to work through these circumstances and continue to be a strong, vibrant part of Wisconsin. As we receive information, we will post updates, including a number of frequently asked questions regarding the governor’s budget announcement, at

FOLLOW-UP LETTERS TO NON-REPRESENTED CLASSIFIED STAFF ANTICIPATING INCREASES ON JUNE 7th 2009

Dear

Due to the severe economic conditions and the resulting budget deficit facing the state of Wisconsin, the governor proposed the 2 percent increase that was to be effective on June 7 be rescinded. The state legislature’s Joint Committee on Employment Relations (JCOER) voted to officially rescind the increase on Wednesday, May 27. As a result, your rate of pay will not be changing.

Although these JCOER adjustments do not currently affect employees covered by an approved collective bargaining agreement, the governor has indicated that additional layoffs will occur if labor organizations do not agree to reopen their contracts to allow for similar adjustments.
