Manager, Family Stability Initiatives

Position Mission

This position is responsible for leading efforts to support projects or initiative activities for the United Way of Pierce County. Specifically, this new position will plan and execute all project-level strategies for the United Way of Pierce County’s initiatives in Strong Families and other systems-level change activities. The manager will identify key areas for evaluation, build capacity for ongoing self-assessment, oversee the development of the Centers for Strong Families (CSF) and lead efforts to conceptualize and implement practices to inform our countywide work with funded programs, place-based initiatives and collaborations. This exciting work will/could include management of external contractors, training and technical assistance to organizations, and training and technical assistance on the scaling of evidence-based programs. The position will be part of the Impact division and support other projects as appropriate.

Key Accountabilities

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the strategic development of the Centers for Strong Families initiative, including developing a vision and mobilizing others to deliver on it. Organize, develop, and oversee the evidence-based model.
  • Set annual goals for the partners and team and facilitate both groups. Provide oversight to the RFQ/RFP process, facilitate CSF leadership meetings.
  • Help to cultivate a funder pipeline, funder relationships and provide input to the development of revenue strategies, including grants.
  • Oversee learning community, ensuring successful delivery and/or facilitation of high impact trainings, peer learnings, content learning, networking, and professional development opportunities.
  • Play a key role in scoping, developing, and managing regional projects and partnerships as appropriate, keeping all moving forward on deliverables and organizing/leading regular team meetings.
  • Build and maintain coalitions and partnerships necessary for the success of strategies by engaging in outreach, education, information gathering and connections with community, business, and labor leaders, and elected/appointed officials.
  • Identify, propose, and implement improvements as needed with regard to CSF operations, for example with regard to allocations, grants management, grant reporting, and deliverables tracking, budgeting, meeting schedules, etc.
  • Serve as primary point of contact and liaison for UWPC’s marketing, volunteer, and impact team on projects that involve the CSF initiative, facilitating special projects as needed.
  • Supervise potential AmeriCorps VISTA in successfully building capacity for the CSF initiative.
  • Act as lead technical assistance provider on coaching and other areas as identified, acting as a resource to other technical assistance providers if needed.
  • Write reports and updates for internal and external uses.
  • Where appropriate, visit public officials, public events, etc. to carry out UWPC’s community impact activities.
  • Understand and lead activities citywide, statewide and nationwide, if needed, to advocate for policy changes in regards to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
  • Support additional evaluation efforts as needed
  • Represent the United Way of Pierce County in community setting as needed

Relationships
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Manager for Family Stability Initiativesreports the VP for Community Impact & Engagement. This position does not have direct supervisor responsibilities.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree
5-7 years of related volunteer or professional experience, direct service and/or leadership in the community, work with public/private sector leaders/decision makers, experience in fundraising, marketing, or community programs.
Development and written or oral presentation or recommendations; rapid, thorough, and accurate implementation of specific projects/tasks.
Excellent oral and written communication skills (including public speaking). Ability to communicate and work effectively with nonprofit, government, community, and labor professionals and leaders as well as corporate executives.
Ability to develop and maintain positive work relationships with staff, volunteers, and persons contacted in the course of work. Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of people inside and outside the organization. Persistent in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner as required. Works well with colleagues and grantees across many diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Self-motivated, goal oriented and organized - - ability to get the job done. Able to work in unstructured environment and adapt easily to change. Takes initiative to complete assigned work rather than waiting for step by step instructions. Ability to manage conflicting and changing priorities.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point; database and CRM software; use of online resources and applications. Comfortable learning about new software systems.
