FAQs
- How many hours do I need to complete the ECE Administration Field Placement?
- The ECE Administration Field Placement is different than what you may have experienced while completing your ECE diploma. There are no required hours;however the placement is approximately 6 weeks, or 30 days in length. There is flexibility in how this can be completed and what each day looks like. For example, some students will complete their placement in 6 weeks working every day, while others may take 7-10 weeks working only 1-2 days a week. Students will work with their Field Placement instructor and the field placement site to ensure an adequate schedule has been developed.
- Who selects the placement site?
- Given the nature of the program students are enrolled from all across the province. The college is not in a position to secure placements in all geographic locations and therefore it is student’s responsibility to secure their own placement. The Field Placement Instructor may be able to act as a resource to the student based on the student’s goals and geographic location.Follow-up contact would be implemented with the placement site, when the student starts the placement.
- I have been working as a supervisor for a number of years. Can my placement length be reduced?
- Yes, consideration for a reduced placement may occur for individuals with a minimum of two (2) years full time experience working as a supervisor or administrator in the field. Proof of experience will be required. Typically for every 2 years of full time experience individuals may receive one (1) week reduction up to a maximum of 3 weeks. An alternative assignment must be completed in lieu of a 3 week reduction in placement days. In addition to the project, students would be required to complete 3 weeks of placement at a site that is not part of their employment.
- Do I have to attend face to face classes?
- No. This course is completely online and all assignments/requirements will be submitted to your instructor via the online course.
- How many activities do I need to complete during the placement?
- There are no required activities to be completed. The placement is self-directed and students are required to identify 3-5 specific goals related to administration and supervision. Students must then develop their own plan to support their growth in these areas. The goals and plan must be approved by both the Field Placement Instructor and the field placement site. Documents are provided to assist the student in identifying the skill set they anticipate practising during the placement. These documents would be completed by the student and the person at the placement who is supervising the student.
- What happens if I miss a day due to illness/religious holiday or emergency?
- Students are required to make up any absences. A physician’s note will be required for prolonged absences. If there is a significant amount of time missed , students may be required to withdraw from the placement.
- Before registering for this course, what should I consider?
- This is typically the last course completed in the program and students need to be prepared to complete 6 weeks or 30 days of placement over the 14 week semester.
- Students who are working full time will need to have acquired the necessary time off to complete the placement. Many students will need to adjust their working hours to ensure adequate time by working earlier shifts, taking vacation days or completing it during the summer months. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure adequate time is available prior to registration in the course, or you may be required to withdraw from the placement.
- Students must also ensure their Criminal Reference Checks and medical clearance meet the requirements of the field placement site. For most sites this means all vaccinations are up to date and the criminal reference check is valid within the last 6months-1 year.
