Item 5: Announcements, etc.:

Item 6: Music Advocacy Issues with FBA and FSMA
The state of the economy has influenced the Lee County superintendent and board to cut approximately 80 music and art teachers from the elementary schools and also to cut middle school orchestra. Only the county art schools will have these programs continue. Even though current forecasts of the State legislature are to not cut funding to a greater degree, Lee County may still delete the arts due to a fear of incomplete funding during the year. A push to get parents to attend the Lee County School Board meeting on May 5 is going on.
Item 7: Unfinished Business
Complete adjudicator evaluation forms for Solo/Ensemble and Concert MPA’s. None have been submitted. As in past emails from Dan, the forms are only available on the FBA website -
District 18 FBA Treasurer for next year will be Ken Trapp. Thanks to Ken for volunteering for this important job.
Discussion about All-State Auditions concerned problems with not enough CD recording devices. Many 2-4 year old Superscope recorders are becoming unreliable. Investigation into hiring a company to record All-State auditions has been unsuccessful so far. Richard Brown will host 2009 auditions at Ida Baker HS and will look into solving logistical problems (Dist 18 All-State auditions will be on September 12, 2009).
Item 8: Committee Reports
none
Item 9: New Business
The district decided to keep the 2010 HS Concert MPA on March 4-6 because of FCAT conflicts on the following weeks and because the auditorium at Cypress Lake HS is booked during the weeks before.
