Substrate Preparation

1.11

Where so designated on the drawings, internal floor surfaces shall be treated with a high performance, coloured and chemically resistant floor topping system.

1.12

General

All surfaces shall be prepared and the epoxy resin material applied strictly in accordance with the manufacturer current technical data sheet.

All work shall be carried out by an experienced contractor, who is well trained in the application of the specific, documented, floor topping system.

All materials used in conjunction with the floor topping system, shall be approved by the coating manufacturer.

1.13

Surface Preparation to existing concrete floor

All surfaces to which the new epoxy resin topping material is to be applied, shall be clean, sound, and free from loose material and contamination such as carpet glue, plaster, oil, paint and grease, to achieve maximum adhesion.

Dry removal of laitance and contamination by light scabbling or captive shot blasting is preferable, but where this is not feasible, treat with an acid wash, followed by thorough rinsing with water and complete drying. Dust and other debris should then be removed by vacuum brush.

All large substrate cracks and holes surface imperfections are to be primed, filled, and dry, prior to epoxy floor topping application. For applications where water vapour, seepage, or moisture are of concern, pre-treatment and priming with a manufacturer-approved, moisture barrier must be used.

Substrates should not have a relative humidity greater than 75% at the time of epoxy resin application.

1.20

Priming / Sealing

All epoxy floor topping surfaces are to be primed with one coat of Nitomortar 903 primer. Porous substrates are to receive two primer coats. Primer coats must be

allowed to dry before applying the epoxy floor topping.

1.30

Joints / Joint Sealants

All existing floor joints are to be expressed within the new epoxy resin floor topping system. Apurpose suitable joint sealant is to be employed to address the issues of the joint movement, traffic type and frequency.

Epoxy Resin Topping System

1.41

The designated floor areas shall be surfaced with a coloured, durable, chemically resistant, non taint, 2-4mm thick, flow applied, epoxy resin floor topping. It shall provide the following properties, when laboratory tested @ 23oC:

Compressive Strength: / 90 MPa
Flexural strength: / 30 MPa
Cure time: / Foot traffic / 24 hours
Vehicular traffic / 48 hours
Chemical / 7 days
