Issue 1 – 15th April 2013

Flintshire Youth & Community Service – Staff Development /Training Statement

Flintshire Youth & Community Service aims to provide an effective and professional service that positively influences the lives of young people. In order to achieve this, the professional competencies of Youth Workers delivering the service must be a prime concern.

All Youth Workers and Volunteers in Flintshire Youth & Community Service are offered access to professional training. All recently appointed, unqualified workers are contracted to complete the Youth Support Worker Level I status on the national Qualification Framework for Youth Work, and then follow this with (Certificate in Youth Work (level III) which gives workers Youth Support Worker (II) status on the National Qualification Framework for Youth Work.

Flintshire Youth & Community Service will offer broad, integrated training experiences for staff, volunteers and the voluntary sector, enabling a progression to both higher levels of personal achievement, and standards of youth work practice in the County.

These additional training experiences will be offered through the Continuing & Professional Development initiatives, throughout the Service. Flintshire Youth & Community Service recognises that in-service training is not only a means of providing staff development, it is also the process whereby staff in post are helped to acquire the necessary competencies for the most effective performance of their duties, and should also assist staff in developing their career pathway. In service training is one of the key ways of improving the effectiveness of staff and therefore ensuring a quality service is provided to young people.

Personal Development Training opportunities, that are not directly related to staff’s current job descriptions and duties, may also be supported, within individual C.P.D. plans

Training may be provided at unit, locality, operational area, county and regional levels, with courses and awareness raising events notified to each unit via the county mailing system.

The Youth Support Worker Training is open to all staff and volunteers who should apply, in the first instance, on the application form at the end of this document.
