Engineering Co-ordinator
(fixed term for two years with the possibility of being made permanent)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose: To be responsible for the co-ordination, planning and implementation of all
maintenance services required to support core business and the services necessary to maintain the fabric, fixtures and fittings of the University College and its facilities.
To be responsible for the day to day planning, supervision and control of the College's multi-disciplinary personnel within Estates Department as well as outsourced contractors.
Responsible to: Deputy Head of Estates
Grade: 7
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To assist with the scheduling, allocation of duties and supervision of assigned staff and ensure they conform to current Health and Safety regulations concerning safe working practices.
- To assist in the identification and provision of appropriate training and development of technical staff, to ensure the effective delivery of services
- To liaise with and supervise consultants and contractors on minor works contracts ensuring that all works are carried out in compliance with relevant legislation, that all systems and equipment conform to current legislation and to undertake financial monitoring to ensure work is carried out within allocated budget.
- To hold, chair and minute regular contractor meetings relating to minor works as required.
- To be responsible for the daily operation and monitoring of the College’s Building Management system to maintain comfort levels for all building users.
- To assist with the inventory of all equipment and supplies used within the College and effectively use the Asset Management system.
- To assist in ensuring the smooth operation of all plant, equipment and facilities including monitoring, repairing or arranging repair, maintenance and/or replacement.
- To assist in the delivery of planned building maintenance program in the key areas of building fabric, plant, ventilation, mechanical and electrical systems and to liaise with outside agencies & contractors as necessary.
- To assist with the inspection and compilation of condition survey reports as requested of plant and machinery, building condition, and updating of survey data on a yearly basis
- To keep informed regarding new technical developments within the industry - particularly equipment - and to make recommendations regarding the adoption and acquisition of such developments to the College.
- To assist in the preparation of specifications and other tender documentation for the procurement of goods and services in accordance with College procedures.
- To carry out any works that may be delegated with respect to Health & Safety and Fire Prevention matters within the College.
- To assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of appropriate security, portering and cleaning arrangements within the College as and when required.
- To assist in the co-ordination of waste/refuse collection to implement an environmentally friendly approach in accordance with any relevant Environmental / sustainability Strategy as and when required.
- To undertake such other relevant duties as may from time to time be required.
- To undertake emergency call out duties as necessary.

Criteria – Essential / How to be assessedQualifications
- Have successfully completed a recognised apprenticeship or training programme in an electrical/mechanical, building services or facility services (hard) related discipline
- A minimum of a vocational qualification e.g. HNC/D in a discipline shown above or full membership of a relevant Professional Institute.

3. A minimum of 5 years recent proven Building Services/ Facilities experience.
4. At least 2 years’ experience of supervising staff including performance and absence management and assessing staff development needs. / Application/Interview

- High level of proficiency in using a range of software packages (including Microsoft Office packages, i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access) and building and asset management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).

- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to motivate and inspire enthusiasm in team members
