IntaRide RP1
Fitting Instructions
1) Before installing the RP1 unit, connect the power lead to the bike battery and insert into the RP1. (See Notes 8 & 10) Hold the microphone to your lips and speak firmly to activate the VOX circuitry so that you can hear yourself loudly through the speakers. Once the required volume has been set, place both speakers to your ears and activate the microphone again - take note how loud this sounds, it should be this loud when the speakers are fitted into your helmet - if it is not, the speakers are in the wrong place and audibility will be greatly reduced at speed.
Full / Flip-Up Helmet
2) Peel the paper from the pads of the speakers, fit within helmet to line up with your ears. If you wish, the speakers can be removed from the pads and recessed behind the helmet lining. Do not put them behind the polystyrene padding, as the sound will not be able to reach your ears !!
BADLY PLACED SPEAKERS WILL GIVE QUIET AND POOR SOUND QUALITY.
3) Slide the microphone base, up between the cheek piece and helmet shell, then bend into position so that the mic is just touching your lips. RED SIDE TOWARD MOUTH
The microphone has an area of sensitivity in the centre of the red disc; your lips must be within a millimetre or so of the centre for it to work properly.
4) The wires should be tucked carefully into the lining & seams of the helmet. The main lead with the waterproof connector needs to hang down from the side of the helmet. (Possibly between the helmet shell and inner lining. As this lead is sometimes subject to "tugging" use a suitable glue or sticky tape to secure it to the helmet to help in the long run.)
5) Attach the curly lead connector to the Helmet and this will plug into the corresponding female jack socket of the RP1 unit
Open Face Helmets
As above, except:
6) You may want to fit the optional accessory foam windsock over the mic. Try to position the mic’ to just touch your lips.
RP1 Unit
7) Position the RP1 Unit in a suitable dry place (normally under your seat) using Velcro or tie-wraps to secure it firmly. You could put it into a plastic bag for greater protection.
8) The power lead needs to be connected to the bike 12v battery source using the 1x amp fuse, if in doubt, it is advisable to seek the services of a qualified auto-electrician. This lead plugs into the PWR socket of the RP1. In-Line Fused lead to the + Positive 12v source. The Rp1 consumes approximately 16 – 18 milliamps when not in use, so if you don’t intend to use your bike for more than a week without using a battery
conditioner, we strongly recommend that you unplug the power lead from the Rp1 socket to prevent drainage of your bike battery
9) The 2 x curly leads coming out of the RP1 unit are for the headsets, they are not orientated so you can use either for rider or pillion. The leads should be secured so that the jack sockets are easily reached by the user (normally comes out from under the seat area) it is advisable to secure the socket end of the leads with tie-wraps to prevent tugging of the cable where it enters the box.
10) The volume button is located on the side of the RP1 unit and can be accessed by the use of a non-sharp implement, each individual press cycles through 4 different volume levels, speak into the mic and make it live, whilst continuing to talk set it to a position where the volume is loud. (NOTE: If using earplugs set the volume whilst wearing them!!)
WARNING: The unit may be set to high volume level when first powered up !!!!!! Watch you ears and do NOT put your helmet on when you first apply power to the unit. After first power-up, the unit will memorise and always remain at your set level even when unplugged.
11) The music input is a standard 3.5mm stereo socket, suitable for Mp3, mini disc etc. A suitable stereo 3.5mm jack cable is provided. Your music will be muted when you speak through the system, then fade back in when you finish.
12) The telephone input is a standard 2.5mm stereo socket, you may need to purchase a “Plantronics” type adapter for your handset, available from many ‘phone” shops or over the Internet NOTE: ALL NOKIA PHONES NEED AN ADAPTER – EVEN IF THE RP1 LEAD SEEMS TO FIT WITHOUT IT !!!!!
13) . NOTE: Position the Mobile telephone away from the RP1 unit to prevent interference and DONOT coil the cables together as they may induce interference.
13) The 2-pin connector is designed for our PMR bike-to-bike radio. As standard, you will be able to transmit by Ptt (Push To Talk). Simply press the Ptt button once, when you first power up the Rp1. If you down-power the Rp1 at any time, you must remember to press the Ptt button otherwise the bike to bike radio may go into permanent transmit
Bike-To-Bike Radio Use
14) Ptt button & extension lead. When connected, push the button once to let the RP1 unit know the button has been connected. Now when you press the button, the radio will transmit independently from the VOX circuitry. This will give you and your pillion privacy, as you will have total control of the output from the B2B radio.
15) Series 80 Charger Kit -
Please ensure you give the battery an 18 hour first charge, thereafter the battery can be used as soon as the charging lights go out.
Battery life will improve after the first 10 or so charging cycles.
NOTE: The RP1 unit handles VOX functions. Do not whistle or shout to start the VOX, it will set the levels to the loudness of the whistle, then your normal speaking voice will not be loud enough to keep it on, so you will be cut of after a few seconds. Just speak normally !!!
Should your Rp1 unit ever “Squeak” at you, the headset jack plug is either waterlogged - simply shake out the water, or the contacts are dirty, rotate the jack plug within the socket, backward & forwards a few times, remove jack plug and a wipe with a clean cloth will usually restore normal operation.
