Homework and Class Work
As eighth graders, you are expected to take responsibility for your
assignments. Homework is always posted in the room and is explained when it is assigned. Homework can also be found on my school web page.
Weekly homework will include chapter questions, definitions and outlines. Assignments can be written or typed, key terms and people need to be highlighted, and checkpoint questions need to be answers in complete sentences.
At the end of each chapter, you will have a test. A study guide will be provided for each chapter. There will be individual and group projects. Computer progress reports will be sent home mid-quarter. Up-to-date grades are posted on Power School. Please check Power School once a week.
Late and Missing Work
As a general rule, one dayʼs grace period is allowed for each day the student is absence. This grace period DOES NOT apply to a vacation or an unexcused absence. The late bin is located in the back of the room.
Students who are absent are responsible for the work missed. It is your responsibility to get the assignment and turn it in without being personally reminded by the teacher.
If you are absent on the day of a test, it will be placed in TNT. You will be given until the end of the next chapter to makeup your test. Special arrangements can be made for extenuating circumstances.
Standards Covered in Class
The focus of the eighth grade history/social science program is centered
around a chronological study of American history from its beginnings to 1900. Major emphasis is placed on the study of the colonies, the American Revolution, the Constitution, the Civil War, westward movement, and democratization of our society.
Possibly Movie List
This year, we may watch part or all of the movies listed below. The movies I show are the clean versions, but if parents have any issues with any of these movies, please let me know, so I can provide the student with an alternative assignment.
America: Story of US
The Presidents (History Channel)
We Shall Remain
Roots
The Patriot
National Treasure
Lewis and Clark
Glory
Selma
Behavior
You are responsible for your actions and attitudes and are expected to be a
courteous and active participant, respectful of teachers and peers. Nonverbal actions can be just as rude and disruptive as talking out of turn. Disregarding Fisher school rules will result in a verbal warning, a student/teacher conference after school, parent notification, and discipline referrals.
Printer Policy
If your printer is not working, email me right away. I will not print out any work for other classes, so please do not ask.
