Position Description

Director of Children’s
Ministries

Principle Functions:

A position that is responsible for the planning, organization, and implementations of the children’s ministry programs of the church. The position also provides support to the pastor in order to facilitate the ministries of FUMC Atlanta.

Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee, a yearly evaluation of job performance will be completed by SPRC

Position Supervises: Volunteers obtained to help with children’s activities

Interpersonal Relationships: As a representative of FUMC Atlanta, all comments, attitudes, actions and behaviors have a direct impact on the image, perception, spiritual representation and ministry of the Church. Interaction with members, guests, visitors, volunteer workers, co-workers, supervisors, business relations, and the community at large must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative and professional.

Position Requirements:

Educational, Vocational, Training and Experience:

·  High school graduate

·  Preferred experience in working with children and planning programs for children ages 3 yrs through 5th grade

Skills and Abilities:

·  Excellent organization skills

·  Good judgment and problem solving skills

·  Ability to handle confidential information

·  Adaptability to perform a variety of tasks

·  Personal leadership skills

·  Ability to interact in a positive manner and communicate well with children, parents, supervisor, SPRC, co-workers and members of FUMC

·  Ability to use personal computer and knowledge of word programming software

·  Ability to develop a budget and present to the finance committee

Job Responsibilities

·  Plan, organize and implement the children’s ministry programs of the church

·  Develop and lead 5th and 6th grade ministry program(s)

·  Recruit, train and motivate volunteers for leadership in children’s ministry programs. Volunteers need to be trained on the Safe Sanctuary Policy of this church to ensure the safety of children.

·  Review and select curriculum materials and education tools for children’s ministry programs

·  Develop and coordinate programs such as Vacation Bible School, summer programs, and mission projects

·  Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, purchasing supplies as needed

·  Work with appropriate committees, officers and leaders to carry out the ministry of the church

·  Attend Regular staff meetings

·  Communicate regularly with parents and volunteers regarding schedules and events

·  Attend Lakeview summer camp and possibly junior high mission trip

Nursery Director

·  Recruit, interview, and recommend candidates for employment as nursery workers.

·  Recruit, train, and oversee all nursery volunteers.

·  Ensure that the nursery operates in compliance with church policy.

·  Ensure that all employees and volunteers are supervised. Supervision includes knowing what employees/volunteers are doing, ensuring that they fulfill their assignments and responsibilities.

·  Organize the nurseries in a developmentally appropriate manner and ensure their cleanliness and safety.

·  Purchase and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies: i.e., diapers, wipes, disinfecting spray and wipes and ensure that nursery rooms are well stocked at all times.

·  Develop and maintain an up-to-date nursery enrollment packet for each child.

·  Oversee the annual training needs of paid nursery workers.

·  Routinely inspect nursery equipment and toys. Purchase and discard items as necessary.

·  Launder sheets, toys, blankets, etc. as necessary.

·  Keep a current list of paid and volunteer nursery caregivers with names/addresses/phone numbers.

·  Schedule all workers and find substitute caregivers when necessary.

·  Meet regularly with nursery workers to address concerns, answer questions, and keep them abreast of happenings affecting their ministry.

·  Keep ongoing record of attendance of both workers and children.

·  Maintain up-to-date signage and appropriate décor for the nurseries.

·  Provide nursery care for special events or meetings.

·  Oversee budget and expenditures for the nursery ministry.

·  Prepare and submit annual nursery budget to Finance Committee.

Environmental Conditions: Will work indoors and outdoors depending on activities

Physical Requirements: Good visual acuity. Ability to speak and hear. Ability to lift and carry in excess of 30 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling, and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, read, and grasp. Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. Ability to sit for an extended period of time.
