First Grade – Mid-Year Report Student ______

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to share with you the results of your child’s mid-year assessments. Below, you will see your child’s scores for the beginning of the year and for this time of year

along with target scores for each administration. Areas of weakness for your child are highlighted. In cases where I have highlighted areas of weakness, I have attached some

activities that you can do at home to support your child. After reviewing this report, please let me know if you would like to schedule a conference to discuss your child’s progress.

READING LEVEL

Your child’s reading level at this time is Level ______. First graders are expected to be reading at a Level F this time of year.

They are expected to read at Level J by the end of the year.

There are four subtests in the Reading assessment.

·  Phonics is the relationship between letters and sounds.

·  Vocabulary in first grade is the ability to read and write words that are antonyms (opposites) and synonyms (words that mean the same thing).

·  Fluency is how quickly and accurately your child reads.

·  Comprehension is the ability to understand what is read.

There are seven subtests in the Math assessment.

·  Number Sense is the ability to represent and understand numbers and operations.

·  Algebra is about putting real life problems into equations and then solving them.

·  Measurement is the ability to estimate, select and use appropriate measurement instruments to solve real world situations.

·  Number Relationships is the understanding of whole number relationships including grouping by tens and ones.

·  Geometry is the ability to describe, draw, identify and use two- and three-dimensional shapes.

·  Number Operations is the ability to apply numbers and operations using real world problems.

·  Calendar Math is the knowledge of calendar skills and their application.
