Conference in Africa(TCCA)

VENUE: University of Venda, Thohoyandou, South Africa.

DATES: 6 – 11 April 2014

THEME

CHEMISTRY FOR DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY IN AFRICA

BACKGROUND
TCCA is reaching the 10th conference – a milestone to celebrate. ESAECC has been conducted jointly with TCCA for a number of years. The joint conferences have attracted researchers from Africa and beyond and provided ideal ground for exchanges of ideas and experiences. Their major objectives are the following:
  • To bring together African scientists to exchange ideas and research results in the fields of theoretical/computational chemistry and of environmental chemistry.
  • To promote research capacity building for theoretical/computational chemistry, as a scarce skill area in the continent.
  • To foster collaboration among African scientists and between African scientists and scientists from other continents.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
We are inviting you to join us by submitting an oral or poster paper for presentation at the conference. We also encourage you to invite your colleagues who are interested in these fields to submit papers for presentation. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to come to a gathering of international speakers on wide ranging issues related to Environmental Chemistry and Theoretical Chemistry.
Abstracts should have the following format:
  • Margins: 3 cm, top, bottom, right and left.
  • Title: font, Arial; font size 14; uppercase; bold; centred.
  • Authors: font, Arial; font size 12; italics; centred.
The name of the presenting author, if submitting with co-authors, is underlined. The institution, postal address and e-mail of author(s) are written under the list of authors.

BRIEF HISTORY OF TCCA / ESAECC

TCCA started as Theoretical Chemistry Workshops in Africa (TCWA), initiated by Prof. Geoffrey Kamau, of the University of Nairobi, and Prof. Liliana Mammino, to promote the development of theoretical/computational chemistry in Africa, where it is still a scarce skill area, absent from many countries despite its importance in fields like drug-design, the design of new substances, and the new fast-growing field of nanosciences. As participation grew, they turned into conferences (TCCA), still maintaining the fundamental character of meetings meant to promote the development of theoretical/computational chemistry in Africa. The Eastern and Southern Africa Environmental Chemistry Conferences (ESAECC) started being conducted jointly to TCCA at their TCCA 4th edition (2001).

The previous conferences were held as follows:

  • Nairobi (Kenya), 2226 February 1995
  • Nairobi (Kenya), 2529 August 1996
  • Nairobi (Kenya), 26 November 1998
  • Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 59 November 2001
  • Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), 15 December 2003
  • Windhoek (Namibia), 59 December 2005
  • Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), 37 December 2007
  • Mombasa (Kenya), 59 October 2009
  • Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), 5 –7 October 2011
