Gary Betts

Gary A. Betts, FCSI, CCS, AIA joined CSI in 1984 and became one of the Institute’s most influential Presidents. During his career with CSI, he has served as Chair of various Chapter, Regional and Institute committees; has earned numerous honors & awards; and elevated to Fellowship in 1996-achieving the Institute’s second highest honor. Mr. Betts has been awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Society of American Military Engineers and the Association for Preservation Technology. He is the author of “Construction Documentation-Specifications” part of the AIA Handbook of Professional Practice. Mr. Betts is a Principal and Director of Specifications and Quality Assurance with Loebl, Schlossman, & Hackl Inc., a Chicago-based, multidiscipline architectural firm with a strong regional and international practice.

Bob Hasting

Bob is president of SFS, Inc. and C.E.O. of Specialty Firestop Systems. Bob has been in the construction industry for 29 years and started in the seals and electrical circuit protection industry in 1978. His experiences include work in the commercial, industrial, hazardous materials, marine and nuclear industries.

Bob developed, wrote and instructed - 5 state and EPA approved classes for the hazardous materials industry, conducted 90+, 32-40 hour training programs for worker and supervisor classification courses in addition to inspection and design courses for architects, engineers and certified industrial hygienists – he designed, managed and consulted on over 70 projects for remediation of asbestos, lead based paints, underground storage tanks and Superfund sites

Bob has been chief estimator, technical advisor, project manager (major projects) responsible for in-

house training, and has provided over 40 seminars to inspectors, building owners, architects, engineers and

general contractors to promote “sole source” firestop contracting.

A graduate of SouthwestTexasStateUniversity, Greg Duyka has over 20 years of estimating and project management experience on commercial and residential construction projects ranging from light industrial, new commercial hi-rise buildings, and multi-family to historical restoration and infrastructure. Bill Koffel, PE, FSPE

Bill Koffel is President of Koffel Associates, Inc, a fire protection engineering and code consulting firm with offices in Maryland and Connecticut. Bill is active in the codes and standards development processes of various organizations. Bill has a B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering, and has over 26 years of experience as a practicing fire protection engineer. He was very active in the code development process of BOCA, ICBO and SBCCI prior to the development of the ICC. He has been involved in NFPA 101 and NFPA 5000 Code Development Processes as well. He is past president and a fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, and has consulted worldwide. Bill was formerly with the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and has been a volunteer firefighter.

Betsy Titus is Manager of Business Development for the Fire & Security Sector of UL. In this role, Betsy identifies new opportunities for UL and develops those opportunities into services that provide value to UL’s customers and it’s stakeholders that include authorities, building owners, architects, contractors, insurance organizations, retailers and the general public. Her role and responsibilities also include growing UL’s fire & security business globally through analysis of business environment and opportunities in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Latin America, development of business plans and implementation of plans through partnerships with UL’s management and staff business partners worldwide.

In 1992, Betsy transitioned from a technical role at UL to a business role in which she had the opportunity to lead teams responsible for establishing UL facilities worldwide, developing partnerships worldwide and developing new services to expand UL’s service offerings. Emmanuel Sopeju

Emmanuel Sopeju joined Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada (ULC) in 1986 as a project Engineer in the Fire Protection Division. In this capacity Emmanuel was involved in large-scale fire testing including testing of Fire Resistant assemblies and Firestopping. His current role is as Staff Engineer with ULC and includes active participation in numerous fire test Standard committees such as ULC, ASTM, and NFPA. He also chairs several ISO fire test committees. Emmanuel also participates on the Ontario Building Code. Emmanuel graduated in 1978 with a B.A. Sc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto.

Bob Perry has been involved in doors and hardware for over 45 years. Bob was one of the first industry people to earn the Construction Specifications Institute Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) designation, is a ‘Distinguished’ Architectural Hardware Consultant (DAHC), a Certified Door Consultant, locksmith, and serves on the Door and Hardware Institute(DHI) Code Advisory Technology Committee. Additionally, Bob is a member of the NFPA Means of Egress and Detention Occupancy Committee, an instructor for the Architectural Hardware Institute of DHI, and also for the Corps of Engineers.

Mark Belke

Mark has 10 years experience with Greenheck, first as a Damper Sales Specialist and presently in the role of Sales and Marketing Manager for the damper division of the Air Movement Products group. As the current Air Movement and Control Association Chair for life safety code action review, Mark has helped influence recent revisions to NFPA and IBC publications. Mark recently worked with the State of California Fire Services department to adopt the 2006 IBC statewide. Mark has presented on life safety dampers in forty-two states and 5 countries. Steve Hunt

Steve Hunt is President – Architectural Sales, Northfield Block Company, A Division of Oldcastle APG MidWest, Inc., and chairman of the National Concrete Masonry Associations (NCMA) Fire Safety Subcommittee.Steve has been instrumental in working towards design using masonry fire resistance rated systems for effective compartmentation in buildings. He was involved in making a study on masonry fire resistance rated construction available nationwide for promotion of total fire protection and balanced design for fire safety. Steve has been very active in the Construction Specifications Institute in Chicago, along with many masonry and architectural associations in the Chicagoland Area.

Larry Schilling has been involved in the fireproofing industry for about 25 years. He has direct experience working with three major manufacturers of spray applied fire resistive materials (cementitious and intumescent coating fireproofing).
