Finger Paint

Recipe 1 (cornflour)
1 cup cornflour
1cup mild soap flakes
½ cup salt
cold water
Add enough cold water to cornflour to make a thin past. Add soap flakes and salt to paste. Add 1.1 ltrs of cold water. Cook in double boiler until very thick.
Recipe 2 (Laundry Starch)
½ cup laundry starch
1½ cups boiling water
½ cup soap flakes
1 tblsp glycerine
Mix starch with enough cold water to make a smooth paste. Add boiling water and cook until glossy. Stir in soap flakes while mixture is still warm. When cool add glycerine and colouring.
Recipe 3 (Laundry Starch)
1½ cups of starch
1½ cups of cold water
1 cup soap flakes
1.1 ltrs boiling water
Mix starch with enough cold water to make a smooth paste. Add 1.1 ltrs of boiling water. Cook until clear stirring constantly. Add soap flakes, then colour.
Variations: For variety in finger painting, add: sawdust, sand, crushed egg shells, straw, cork. To any of the above recipes. / Squirt Paint
4 cups water
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
Mix all together.
Use in squeezable plastic containers with holes in top. (Fun for special occasions- spray on to large sheets of paper or cotton sheets hung on a wall or fence).
Cornflour Paint (or glue)
12 tblsps cornflour
1 cup cold water
Boiling water
Blend cornflour with cold water and add sufficient boiling water to bring the whole to 1.1 ltrs. Boil for 1 minute until mixture is clear and thick.

Modelling Goup

2 cups salt
2/3 cup water
Heat for 4-5 minutes.
Add
1 cup cornflour mixed in ½ cup cold water.
Stir until smooth.
Cook until thick.
Store in plastic bag.

Play Clay

Mix together

2 cups baking soda
1 cup cornflour
Add 1¼ cups water gradually.
Heat to boiling point stirring constantly.
Remove from heat.
Knead slightly.
Keep in airtight container.
Will harden overnight or in 125o-150o oven.

Modelling clay

1 cup table salt
1 cup cornflour or cornstarch
¾ cup of cold water
Put cornflour and salt in a basin and stand in saucepan of hot water. Add cold water gradually, stirring continuously. Keep stirring as saucepan of water boils, and when mixture becomes too thick to stir – spoon on to a plate to cool. Knead to make smooth.
Dries hard overnight
Can be painted. /

Sand Dough

2 cups sand
1 cup cornflour
2 teaspoons alum
1½ cups hot water
Mix sand, cornflour and alum. Add water and stir well with a wooden spoon. Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring all the time.
This dough has an interesting smell and texture and can be used warm.
Colour can be varied by using different coloured sand.
Things made with this dough and left to dry will become very hard.
Play-Dough (uncooked)
Mix together:
2 cups flour
1½ cups salt
Mix together:
2 tblsps oil
1-1½ cups hot water
Add water mixture to flour mixture and blend by hand or electric beater.
Play-Dough (cooked)
4 cups flour
2 cups salt
2 cups water
2 tblsps cooking oil
2 tblsps cream of tarter
Mix all together – stir and cook over medium heat.
