StatusFull time / Maternity leave cover contract (14 months)

Overall Responsibility

Provide support to the Head of Finance and Administration to maintain all financial systems, to ensure that MSF Australia and MSF New Zealand comply with internal and external reporting requirements, and to provide quality information and analysis to the business.

Tasks and Duties

Financial Accounting

  • Reviewall tasks necessary to completemonthly financial accounting on a timely basis, including general ledger reconciliations
  • Review Sales Ledger / intercompanies with other MSF entities
  • Review and lodge Business Activity Statement for MSF entities
  • Ensure all financial processes are followed accurately
  • Prepare consolidated statutory accounts, along with all preparatory documentation for the audit process
  • Prepare international accounts for MSF Australia and MSF New Zealand, along with all preparatory documentation for the audit process
  • Liaise with auditors, during and outside of, the audit process and provide information as required
  • Throughout the year, assist in ensuring all audit checks and processes are adhered to
  • Assist in ensuring MSF Australia and MSF New Zealand complies with all external and statutory legal and reporting requirements
  • Take on aspects of the role of Head of Finance and Admin when the Head of Finance and Admin is absent
  • Complete any other accounting tasks as required

Management Accounting and Business Analysis

  • Analyse and actively identify any significant variances to budget or forecast. Liaise with the relevant Departments to drive changes in actions where necessary, and ensure understanding of results
  • Assist in identifying risks, opportunities and potential solutions for variances along with the Head ofFinanceAdministration and the relevant Department
  • Understand and maintain projections of the key performance ratios
  • Identifying and understanding the main drivers of financial results, to ensure accurate projections of results
  • Identifying areas for improvement in financial and business performance
  • Assist in analysis and financial support for specific projects

Financial Management

  • Review office and field payroll
  • Review monthly superannuation files for payment
  • Review annual payment summaries
  • Review and authorise weekly and any ad hoc supplier payments
  • Review annual FBT return and liaise with relevant parties if required
  • Effectively manage cash reserves
  • Liaise with Fundraising as and when required regarding sale of bequest assets

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Preparation and coordination of the annual budget process for MSF Australia and MSF New Zealand
  • Preparation and coordination of quarterly reviews and monthly and ad hoc forecasting
  • Conduct variance analysis and identify issues and opportunities, and liaise with the budget holder to act on these
  • Assist in preparing budget and quarterly review presentations for the board and management team
  • Assist in reviewing forecasting methods to ensure best practice

Management Reporting

  • Develop and continually refine relevant and useful management and board reports monthly.
  • Assist in working with other departments to develop reports and reporting tools for specific areas e.g.: appeal performance, return on investment performance, donor statistics
  • Continue to improve internal reporting times, and ensure all international and external deadlines for reporting are met

Process Improvements

  • Continually review financial and business processes, improving and streamlining where necessary to ensure optimal business performance
  • Specifically identify where processes can be automated, and assist in implementing automation where relevant
  • As part of the finance team, ensure that the procedures manual is developed and always reflects accurate and up to date information
  • Ensure all financial systems are working efficiently and seek process improvements when required

Staff Management

  • Effectively managethe necessary roles and ensure that staff carry out their task and duties in line with their role requirements
  • Ensure that staff receive appropriate development and training to enable them to perform in their roles
  • Review and monitor performance on a regular basis andprovide input into the performance management and development program.

Selection Criteria

  • Current right to work in Australia
  • Business related degree
  • Qualified or part-qualified Accountant – CPA, CIMA
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and management accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Confidence and ability to have difficult conversations and push for required outcomes
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Highly organised to meet key deadlines
  • Ability to manage stress in a busy but supportive working environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as workas part of a team, with the ability to switch between seeing the bigger picture and having a “hands on” approach
  • Experience with people management

  • SAP experience
  • Experience with the not-for-profit industry
  • Significant experience reviewing payroll
