Finance Manager

The CIF Los Angeles City Section(LACS) is seeking a qualified applicantfor the position of Finance Manager. This is afull-time position based in Granada Hills, California.

California Interscholastic Federation

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) was founded in Southern California in 1914 has expanded to include 10 Section that manage education based interscholastic athletics. As a problem-solving organization, the CIF prides itself on providing equitable athletic competition for more than 1,500 schools across California. The CIF Los Angeles City Section (LACS) founded in 1936, constitutes a Section of the CIF, and as such, is the governing body for 145 member high schools, 50,000 athletes participating in 16 different sports for boys and girls.

The LACS is committed to providing quality support services in a respectful and gracious manner. We aim to enhance our member high schools’ abilities to manage interscholastic athletic programs and create opportunities for participation. Our goal is to promote safe, equitable and fair interscholastic competition and develop programs that will raise academic achievement through participation ineducation based athletic.

Position Overview

LACS is seeking an energetic and innovative individual who will be responsible for all the organization’s financial matters. This position reports directly to the Section Commissioner, while working collaboratively to address the operational needs and directives of the Section Board of Managers and Executive Committee.

Major Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Commissioner the Finance Manager will administer all financial matters to include;billing disbursing and collection, payroll, operating accounts, profit/loss reports, operating expensespayroll.
  • Under the direction of the Commissioner, will develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • The Finance Manager will maintain all financial records using QuickBooks and oversee annual mandated financial audit and filing of tax returns.
  • Will provide accurate and current data for the Section operating budget.
  • Prepare monthly data reports for the Commissioner and make presentation to the Board of Managers and Executive Committee.

Essential Job Duties

  • Manage all financial operations, including:
  • Record/book keeping, ledger reconciliation, and vendor file maintenance,
  • Financial projections and forecasting,
  • Development and maintenance of programmatic and annual budgets,
  • Accounts payable/receivable and procurement needs,
  • Banking and investments,
  • Tax filing and financial audits, AND
  • Budget analysis
  • Policy implementation
  • Manage payroll and staff benefit functions, including:
  • Payroll administration,
  • Employment verification
  • Health and retirement benefits administration,
  • Maintenance of personnel records, AND
  • Stafftermination processing.
  • Process annual membership fees, including assessment distribution, and collection of funds.
  • Oversee assigned championship events – ticket sales, event staff hiring and supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of five years of budgetary and accounting experience.
  • Detail-oriented, demonstrates initiative, and ability to work independently.
  • Multi-tasker, comfortable in fast-paced working environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to create presentation using data driven information.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Proficient with QuickBooks and ADP payroll applications.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience within the field of accounting and/or business.
  • Ability to perform all tasks efficiently and accurately with a strong attention to time management, discretion, and good judgment.
  • Positive attitude, approachable, and ability to maintain professional demeanor while interacting with clients and staff.
  • Willingness to be a team player, without hesitation, to support office needs and agenda.
  • Understanding of interscholastic sports programs and public school financial operations.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong knowledge of interscholastic athletic organizational structure and programs.
  • Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal employment and tax laws.
  • Strong financial management skills.
  • Knowledge of auditing practices and requirements
  • Bilingual in reading and writing Spanish

Education/Certification

Required: Business or finance related four year college degree.

Preferred: Masters degree in business or sports finance related field.

Working Conditions

  • Secure indoor office location.
  • High volume of activity to include phone traffic, walk-in requests, and e-mail correspondence.
  • Extended/Weekend hours required during Championship seasons; typically, 3-5 days in the months of November, March, and May.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary activities including standing, sitting, walking, reaching, lifting up to 30 pounds of supplies, pushing, bending and/or pulling required.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual compensation range for this position is $53,000 to $70,000per year dependent upon experience, educational background, and qualifications. LACS has a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement, paid vacation, and ten (10) paid holidays that is offered after a 60 day probationary period.

Appointment Type

Full-Time, Exempt

241 working days per year

12 Month (July – June fiscal year)
