AGIMO develops whole-of-government ICT management policies relating to the design and implementation of government programs and the delivery of government services.
AGIMO was established on 8 April 2004, replacing the National Office for the Information Economy.
On 26 October 2004, AGIMO ceased to be a separate Executive Agency under the Public Service Act1999. On4November 2004, it was deprescribed as an agency under the FinancialManagement and Accountability Act 1997 and transferred to the Department from the then Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.
Auspic Government Photographic Service (Auspic)

The Government Photographic Service was established under the Hawke Government within the then Department of Administrative Services. Its purpose isto record major political events. In 1998 the function was transferred to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and was renamed Auspic Government Photographic Service.
On 3 December 2007, responsibility for Auspic was transferred to the Department under the Administrative Arrangements Order.
TheParliamentary Entitlements Act 1990 provides for two photographic sessions per year for each Parliamentarian.

The Commonwealth car-with-driver service has existed in a number of forms since 1910. COMCARcame into operationin its current form in1976 when car-with-driver services in the States amalgamated with Ministerial Car Services in Canberra, under the supervision of the then Departmentof Administrative Services. In 1987, theservice was renamed ‘COMCAR’.
COMCAR provides services to eligible Australian Government clients, including official guests. COMCAR clients may alternatively choose private sector providers in obtaining carwithdriver services.

Comcover is the Australian Government's general insurance fund. Comcover provides insurance and risk management services to all General Government Sector agencies and the High Court of Australia.
Fund members purchase cover for all normally insurable risks, with the exception of workers' compensation, which is the responsibility of the Australian Government's Comcare program.
Comcover is managed by the Insurance and Risk Management Branch within the Department.

The Council manages a political exchange program to arrange visits of young political leaders between Australia and other countries.
The Council is comprised of up to six members who are selected by the principals of the Council. The current principals are the Parliamentary leaders of the three major political parties in the Australian Parliament. Secretariat services are provided by the Department.
Established in 1981 on an interim basis, it became the Australian Political Exchange Committee in August 1983, before assuming its current name in 1991.

As Chief Executive of ComSuper (see Section C), the Commissioner provides superannuation administration services for the Commonwealth Superannuation Scheme, the Public Sector Superannuation Scheme, the Public Sector Superannuation Accumulation Plan, the Military Superannuation and Benefits Scheme and the Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits Scheme.
The Commissioner is responsible for the now closed Defence Forces Retirement Benefits Scheme, certain closed Papua New Guinea superannuation schemes and the scheme under the Superannuation Act 1922. The Director heads the Office of Evaluation and Audit (OEA) which provides advice to the Australian Government about the management and performance of its programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The OEA was transferred to the Department following the abolition of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission in July 2004. Theposition of Director was re-established under section 193ZA of the Act on 24 March 2005.

The AEC is responsible for conducting federal elections and referendums and maintaining the Commonwealth electoral roll. TheAEC also provides electoral information and education programs.
The Commission consists of a Chair (a Judge or a retired Judge of the Federal Court), theElectoral Commissioner, and a non-judicial member (usually the Australian Statistician). The Chair and the non-judicial member hold their offices on a part-time basis.
The Act also establishes several statutory office holders, including Divisional Returning Officers and persons known as Australian Electoral Officers, who administer federal elections in each State and the Northern Territory. TheAustralian Capital Territory is managed by the NSW Australian Electoral Officer.
From 1902, electoral functions were performed through a branch of the then Department of Home Affairs and its successor Departments of State. Between 1973 and 1984, theAEC wasknown as the Australian Electoral Office.
On21February1984, theAEC was established as an independent statutory authority.

ARIA administers the Commonwealth Superannuation Scheme (CSS), the Public Sector Superannuation Scheme (PSS) and the Public Sector Superannuation Accumulation Plan (PSSAP) and manages the investment of the CSS Fund, the PSS Fund and PSSAP Fund, inaccordance with the provisions of the Acts establishing those schemes and, in respect of the PSS and PSSAP, the trust deeds established for those schemes. ARIA replaced the CSS and the PSS boards.
On 1July 2006, ARIA was prescribed as an agency under the FinancialManagement and Accountability Act 1997.

ComSuper administers the various public sector superannuation schemes, both civilian and military. It carries out these services on behalf of the Australian Reward Investment Alliance (see also SectionC), for the Commonwealth Superannuation Scheme(CSS), thePublic Sector Superannuation Scheme (PSS), and the Public Sector Superannuation Accumulation Plan(PSSAP).

AIDC was established in 1970 to facilitate the development of Australian industries, and the participation in those industries by Australians, by providing financial services to them and by participating in enterprises or projects.
In July 1989, the majority of the AIDC’s business was transferred to a company, AIDC Ltd, which was then floated on the Australian Stock Exchange. AIDC was the majority shareholder of AIDC Ltd.
On8November 1995, AIDC re-acquired the privatelyheld shares in AIDCLtd and AIDC Ltd was delisted on 8February1996.
AIDC continues to manage ongoing guarantees and other Commonwealth obligations, the last of which is expected to expire in September 2010.

ARCo was originally created as the Australian Coastal Shipping Commission on 1 October 1956, operating some 40 ships. It became the Australian Shipping Commission in 1974 and was subsequently incorporated as ANL Limited. In 1989 it was known as the Australian National Line, and in 1998, it assumed its present name.
