Course Description:

Prerequisites: ACCT 220, ECON160, SOM 120, SOM 120 may be taken concurrently. BUS 302 is a co/prerequisite for BSBA majors. An analysis of the financial decision making process of a firm from both internal and external points of view. Topics include valuation, working capital management, capital budgeting, financial forecasting, capital structure, and sources of capital and dividend policy in both a domestic and international context.

Text and Calculator:

There are two texts for the course: A Random Walk Down Wall Street (Malkiel) and my class notes.There is a web page: http://www.csun.edu/~jpd45767/303/fin303.htmlwhich will have the syllabus,problem sets as they become available and perhaps additional notes. You will need a financial calculator (the recommended calculator is the HP10bII). You are responsible for learning how to use the basic functions of your calculator. You are not allowed to use graphing calculators with memory.

Office Hours:

T, R: 10:00-11:00, 2:00-3:00, or by appointment.

Grading:

The course grade is based on the average of a final exam (40%) and two midterm exams (30% each). +/- grading is used. There are no early or makeup exams. You may not enter the classroom 30 minutes after the start of an exam. The midterms are tentatively scheduled for 9/30 and 11/4. The final exam will be at the scheduled time (Tuesday Dec 16, 10:15-12:15). Problems sets will be assigned most weeks and discussed in class (but do not need to be turned in).

Please turn cell phones off or to vibrate. Please do not text-message during class. Blackberrys and similar devices may not be used for taking notes.
