Field Operations Technician

Iroquois Pipeline Operating Company, a leading interstate natural gas pipeline company providing transportation services to meet the changing needs of customers in the Northeast region of the U.S. seeks to fill a position in our Field Operations department.

Description:

This position will perform DOT required operations and maintenance tasks for various Iroquois facilities. Candidate will be involved in cross-functional day-to-day activities in the disciplines of plant operations, pipeline damage prevention, gas measurement and maintenance and compliance tasks associated with high pressure gas pipeline systems. This position requires active participation in Iroquois’ Safety and Environmental programs with an emphasis on finishing each day incident and injury free. The candidate will perform operational and maintenance tasks to assure continuity of operations of assigned facilities within Company operating/safety/environmental procedures; operability of engines, compressors, cooling equipment, pumps, valves and fittings and other associated equipment. Must be adaptable to changing priorities and project conditions. This position will be based out of one of the NY stations. The incumbent must live in a location that allows for a one hour maximum response to assigned facilities. This position is safety sensitive as defined by the US DOT and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Knowledge:

Strong knowledge of electrical controls, instrumentation and mechanics is a plus. Knowledge of pipeline regulations, damage prevention programs and familiarity of natural gas transmission industry is desirable.

Education and Experience:

Three to five years of experience working with mechanical, electrical equipment. Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and proven analytical skills. Formalized training in related industries (e.g. construction trades). Candidate must have the ability to read & interpret Operations & Maintenance manuals, vendor manuals, blueprints and to follow company policies and procedures. Manual dexterity with physical ability to work in situations which require bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching & lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Basic PC computer skills and trainable to custom software applications.
  • Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work and make key decisions without supervision.
  • Good communication skills- must be able to interface effectively with many internal and external customers, land owners, regulator officials, company contacts & coworkers.
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner to an emergency or after-hours calls. May be exposed to working in harsh weather. Work schedules may include weekends and holidays as well as after-hours call-outs required by operational need or emergencies.
