ORGANOGRAM

PURPOSE

The main purpose of this position is to perform echocardiograms on adolescent research participants as part of the Cape Town Adolescent Antiretroviral Cohort (CTAAC) and manage the study related administration. The technologist will function under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Prof Heather Zar, cardiology sub-study investigator, Dr Liesl Zuhlke and the study medical officer Dr Sanchia Theron. The position includes equipment maintenance and supply, development and updating of standard operating procedures, data management and quality assurance exercises.

  • Performing and Reporting of Echocardiograms on Research participants:
  • Assuring compliance with all elements of study protocols
  • Management of results
  • Transfer and Archiving / filing of echocardiography reports at the data office

  • Valid Driver’s license

  1. DATA MANAGEMENT

  • Transfer & Archiving of live echocardiography examinations to the Data Office
  • Accuracy and completeness of consent forms
  • Completing case report forms and data collection forms
  • Providing input on the content and outlay of the echocardiography protocols. Write the Data Management Plan for the handling of echocardiography data
  • Generating Back-ups of the data recorded on the echocardiography machines

  1. CLINICAL COMMITMENTS

  • Minimal clinical commitments within the department of cardiology include covering for the full-time clinical echo tech when she is on leave/ill
  • Minimal cath lab exposure

  • Assisting with the Writing and design of echocardiography protocols. Assuring that ultrasound equipment is functioning well, handled and used with care and then stored safely.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications / Echocardiography degree / Diploma
Registration with the South African Health professions Council as an echo-cardiographer
Key Competencies / Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Previous clinical trial and / or research experience
Fluency in isiXhosa and / or Afrikaans
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice
Valid Driver’s license
Computer literacy (Ms Word, Ms Excel and the Internet)
Ability to work independently
Interest in furthering qualifications
