GENERAL

Our Homecoming Game is Friday with the dance on Saturday. The dance begins at 8:00 and ends at 11:00 PM. Doors close at 9:00. Crowning will be held at 10:30 – voting will take place as students are admitted into the dance. If your date is not from Fatima, you need to sign him/her up in the HS office. The dance is open to High School students only (9-12). If your guest has already graduated from high school, they must be under the age of 21. Dress is business casual – jeans will not be allowed.

Students: It’s time to show your school spirit and win the spirit stick for your class! Today is Movie Character Day – dress as your favorite character from a movie, either animated or real. Wednesday is Rainbow Day – be colorful and dress in all the colors of the rainbow. Thursday is Zombie Day – it’s self-explanatory. Friday is Blue & Gold Day! Please remember to remain school appropriate. No masks will be allowed.

FFA Members: There is a meeting today 7th hour.

SPORTS

Basketball Schedule Changes: On Jan 17, 2 quarters of a 9th/10th Grade Girls game has been added to the JV/V games and will start at 5:30. On Jan 28, the Girls 9th/10th Grade game has been cancelled and the boys game will be played at 5:30. On Feb 7, there will be no JV Girls game and JV Boys will start at 5:00.

Boys Basketball: 9th/10th Grade and JV teams travel to Vienna tonight – the bus leaves at 4:45 for a 6:00 tip. 9th/JV/V host Harrisburg on Friday night for Homecoming. The first game tips at 5:00.

Girls Basketball: JV and V travel to New Bloomfield tonight – JV will play ½ game, tipping off at 6:00. We host California on Thursday - 9th/10 will play 2 quarters, tipping at 5:30 followed by JV and Varsity games.

Wrestling: We host Centralia and Fr. Tolten Catholic (JV/V) tonight at 6:00. Varsity and JV travel to School of the Osage on Thurs – 6:30 start. We have only 4 meets left before Districts. If you haven’t been to a match yet, we’re home tonight and we host Versailles on the 22nd – come watch us!

Golf: If you are interested in playing golf this spring there will be a sign-up sheet on coach Royston’s door and there will be a VERY short meeting at 8:00 AM on Friday morn.

SENIORS

Seniors: College choices should be narrowed to one or two. Academic Awards Night is April 24 - If you want to be recognized for scholarships you receive from colleges, you need to keep Mrs. Mueller posted. Make sure you keep track of every scholarship you apply for – you will need that list.

GUIDANCE

Sophomores: The Nichols tour is Jan 18. Mueller will give out permission slips Thurs and they must be returned by Tuesday.

Majoring in Diesel Mechanics or Heavy Equip Repair? Apply for the Kansas City Associated Equip Distributors scholarships. Four $1000 scholarships will be awarded. Must have a 2.5 GPA. Deadline is March 1. See Mueller for a form.

Looking for a summer program to pad your resume? Check out the opportunities at UMR. Programs start for students as young as 10 and up through juniors and seniors. Aerospace, robotics, materials, explosives, lots of “girls only” programs, etc. Go to summer.mst.edu. Registration opens in February.

If you or your parent has Multiple Sclerosis: Apply for the MS Scholarship program. Most awards are for $1000 to $3000. Go to nationalMSsociety.org/scholarship or call 800-344-4867 for more information.

Attend the Zombi Scholars Academy July 7-14 at Truman State in Kirksville. The academy puts the students in the heart of a hypothetical disaster and encourages them to answer the “What If” questions related to the zombie apocalypse! To register, visit Zombie.truman.edu.

7-11 Finals Schedule:

May 15 – Grades 7-11 will take 7th hour finals during 1st & 2nd hour and grades 9-11 will take 8th hour finals during 3rd & 4th hour. JH will go to the multi-purpose room at 9:45 for the awards program and 8th grade promotion.

JH Awards: The JH program starts at approximately 10:00. Report to your 8th hour teacher for attendance. You will then be excused to go to the Multi-Purpose room. You need to be quiet in the hallways as grades 9-11 will be taking finals.

Vitae Essay Deadline: The Vitae Essay Contest deadline has been extended to June 15. Students, take advantage of the extra time to submit your essay for a chance to win Cardinals tickets and more!

A+: If you are going to be a Junior or Senior next year and would like to get your A+ tutoring hours completed over the summer, you need to see Mr. Buthod. To qualify for A+ you must do 50 hours of tutoring. Summer school is a great way to get your hours in very quickly.

SPORTS

Fri and SatSpring sports are rapidly coming to an end. GOOD LUCK to all athletes as we enter District, Sectional and State competitions!

The Spring Athletic Banquet is scheduled for 6:00 PM at the KC Hall on Sunday, June 3rd. Sign up in the HS office. Athletes are free, all others are $8.

HS Track and Field: Don’t forget to pay $3.50 to Coach Bridges by noon today if you want to attend the Sectional Track and Field Pizza Party and Super Fun Time plus Neat Games Night on Friday night! Sectionals are Saturday at Centralia. PASSES ARE NOT VALID at the Sectional or State Meets. Best of luck to all athletes!

Baseball: We play Fulton in Fulton at 12:30 Saturday in the first round of Districts. Admission will be $4 per person. Students and senior citizens will be required to pay $4 admission as well. PASSES ARE NOT VALID at the District, Sectional, Quarterfinal or State meets.

Soccer: We host Dixon tonight at 5:00. On Saturday, the first District game is Southern Boone vs. Belle at 4:30 then we play Crocker at 7:00. The winner of those two games will compete for the championship title on the 15th at 6:00. Admission will be $4 per person. Students and senior citizens will be required to pay $4 admission as well. PASSES ARE NOT VALID at the District, Sectional, Quarterfinal or State meets.

Golf: Dusty Angerer and Connor Muenks compete at State at Twin Oaks in Springfield on May 14 and 15. Congratulations and Good Luck!

Fines/Fees Reminder: Please keep in mind if you owe lunch money, library fines/fees, etc., that all has to be paid before Friday. Your diploma will not be mailed to you if you owe money, still have books checked out, etc.

GUIDANCE

Seniors: First, If you took any dual credit classes from a school that you are NOT attending next year, you must request that your transcript be sent from the school that gave you the credit to the school that you are going to attend. If you are not currently taking any dual credit but did in the past, send this request now. If you are currently in a dual credit, send this request to the school at the end of may so they have time to get your current classes on the transcript. Second, you MUST give Mrs. Mueller a final transcript request so she can send your transcript that says “graduate” to the school you will attend in the fall. You can’t attend that school until they have that transcript.

Students 8-12 grade interested in sports medicine / athletic training: Consider attending the Missouri State 2012 Bear’s Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Camp June 13-16. Cost is $225. Register by May 14. Mueller has a flyer or go to or call 417-836-8553 for more information.

Freshmen: Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be offering the Leadership in Practice (LIP) program again this summer – July 25, 26 & 27, 2012 (Wed thru Fri). Students participating in the program have gone back to their high schools to become active participants in clubs, organizations and other areas of personal interest. College Visits: Wash U in St. L has various special visit days over the summer including academic exploration day June 14 and Jul 17, Art and Architecture July 12, Business Jul 26, Engineering June 26 & Jul 5, Liberal Arts June 21, Pre-Med June 12 & Jul 10 and Scholar Athlete Jun 19. Health Career Discovery Camp will be held July 11-13, 2012 from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM each day at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Get information on careers in the health industry, an understanding of how to conduct basic patient assessments (blood pressure, temperature, etc.), Eight hours of job shadowing and attend a Scholarships and School Forum .
