  • 'If more Tea is wanting to fill up the Ships, You are to buy what is Sound, Sweet and Cheapest at Market, either of the Green or Bohea Sorts.
  • The Surplus Stock must be laid out in Raw Silk of the same sort as has hitherto been Imported.
  • You must Order to be prepared for the Supra Cargoes of next Season about One Pecul of Raw Silk, as near as possible to the White Sample herewith sent, and to observe the following Directions viz
  • The Yellow Single Piedmont is Sample for Fineness of such China Silk as would by being thrown here, Answer the Purposes of the finest thrown Piedmont.
  • Suppose this be a Thread made from Five Cocoons, some might be drawn from Six and so up to Eight Cocoons, and any of these would make Warp. Each size to be kept Separate.
  • The White is a Sample for Sute, and Silk made as near this Size as possible, rather finer than coarser would be extreamly [sic] acceptable.
  • When the Number of Threads from the Cocoons, which will make the Size Are found out, they must neither encrease [sic] nor decrease'em.
  • The length of the Reel for both Sorts to be according to the Samples.
  • NB: 'The Cocoon is the Silk Worms Bag from which the Silk is originally wound.'

Remarks not relating directly to the merchandise they seem to fall under

  • 'We shall Order our Se3rvants in the Bay to Supply You with some fine Jugdea Bastaes, which must be printed with variety of beautiful Patterns, but not in the expensive manner of the Madrass Chints. You must coninue to make them all White Grounds, and the Colours more lively, with as much variety as you can.
  • More care must be taken in future that the Bales and Tickets of the Ingeram Cloth answer as to the Sortment, and the Tickets put into all the Bales must be laid under the first Piece that they may be easily found. And you must take care to send the Goods agreeable to Invoice there having been great Mistakes made for several Years past.'
  • 'You must send Us a Bale of every other Sort of Goods brought Home by all the European Ships from your Coast, which You have not complied with nor have You given any Reasons for it.
  • We have Ordered for several years the following Species of Goods viz Allejars, Callonapores, Singhams Sprited, Ditto Chequered on a red Ground, Sastracundys and Romals Metchlepatam or Sastracundys of which We have received few or none. We insist on having your Reasons why that part of our Orders have not been better complied with.'

  • 'NB If you have any other Species of Goods not mentioned here you may send us a few Bales of them for a Sample you must take care in all the Colour'd Goods that the Colours are bright and lively.
  • Let the Gurrah Wrappers be good.
  • We observe for some Years past almost all the Piece Goods to be advancing in Price, and at the same time declining in Quality, you are therefore to do your utmost to reduce the Price, and keep up the Quality of them.
  • All the Stitched Muslins especially the fine Sorts,a re worked with too Coarse Thread which makes them heavy and appear Clumsey and very much depreciates the Value of them, you should take particular care that the Thread they are Worked with be finer than the Muslin worked on, which will make them answer much better, and let us have as great variety in Fancy as possible, many of these Goods being now used for Men's Ruffles, You must send us some worked on very fine Cloth, such as has been brought Home in Private Trade, which must be worked with variety of proper Patters for that use, and some of them with small Soots and Sprigs of various kinds, you must take particular care to keep up the Quality of this Article, or it will be lost.
  • You must not send us any Goods Stitched with Silk on any account whatsoever.
  • We recommend and desire that you will procure us some Bales of the several Sorts of Goods brought Home by the Dutch and French as well plain as flowered, and particularly of the Fancy and worked goods of the latter.
  • Of the several undermentioned Articles, We have received very few or none, such of them as come from Soxximbuzar, You have given us the Reason for their being omitted, but We do expect and insist upon it for the future, that you constantly give us your Reason for your not sending any of the Articles which we order from time to time viz'
