JOB TITLE:Prescribing Clerk
REPORTS TO:Medicine Manager
HOURLY RATE:£7.30-£8.02/hr (pro-rata dependent upon experience)
2JOB SUMMARY
Working on the prescribing line and dealing with requests from patients for their repeat medication is a rewarding post, however like most frontline jobs dealing with a wide range of customers and internal stakeholders, it can be often be pressurised and demanding.
To cope in this type of environment we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate previous experience of working under pressure whilst maintaining excellent customer service.
Candidates will also need to be able to demonstrate on their application form experience in using Microsoft packages including outlook, general admin duties, dealing with difficult situations and working with a range of internal and external customers from senior staff such as our GP’s to patients.
This is a fixed term post to cover a period of maternity leave (June 2018-Apruil 2019)
POST: 32.5hrs/wk. based at Beech House, Egremont
Working Pattern:
Monday 0800-1300 + 1330-1730
Tuesday 0800-1300 + 1330-1700
Wed Day Off
Thursday 0845-1300 + 1330-1730
Friday 0845-1300 + 1330-1700
As well as your core hours, you will also be required to cover holidays and sickness for your reception colleagues.
You will work as part of the prescribing team which deals with all aspects of patient’s medication.
Your duties will involve the use of the Emis clinical computer system; training will be given on the system. .
DUTIES
All contact with patients should be dealt with in a caring manner; ensuring patients receive a prompt response to their request/queries in a polite and courteous manner. As a member of frontline staff, you demeanour when answering the telephone or dealing with patients represents the public face of the practice.
Tasks: To deal with practice notes regarding medication on a daily basis, ensuring that the action is either complete or forwarded on. Any requests for the patient to be contacted and the reason why should be passed on to the patient in an accurate and timely manner.
Prescriptions: - You will work with an established team and will follow a rota covering all aspects of prescribing (i.e. dealing with patient requests from voicemail, e-mail, answering the telephone, dealing with paper requests, discharges from hospital and other third parties).
Protocols: You will follow strict protocols relating to the issuing of repeat medication in line with practice policy; training will be given by Medicine Manager on protocols.
Chemists: - You will be first point of contract with chemists and/or patients to ensure prescriptions are dealt with within the 48hr turn round.
3TRAINING
All new entrants will undergo induction training which will include training on the Emis clinical system.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE / DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCEExperience in dealing with members of the public (customer facing role) / NVQ II in Customer Care
Experience or working in a GP Surgery
Numerate and IT literate including use of Microsoft Office, Word, use of e-mail and Internet
Evidence of working in an administrative field.
