Looking at Data we focus on these points

  • high proficiency - close gaps btw Asian /EC
  • (+) impact
  • anti-bullying

How are we using Map Scores?

  • Teachers are breaking down data and isolating individual students to focus on their needs.
  • Sharing data with parents
  • Compass learning helps to supplement the key concepts to get ready for the end of grade assessments

Teachers are utilizing data/ parents will be receiving an individualized score report so that parents can see how their children are doing and even the history of their performance

Also the ACT data - our subgroups tend to perform the same as on EOGs. The ACT company puts out a lot of data, unfortunately we can’t see the data across the district, just comparison with our own score history and not how we compare to the nation.

8th grade version - racial/ethnic gaps and subtopic of subjects - it does mirror our EOG’s we still have work to do and we still have gaps and one gap is the boy-girl gaps.

Other charts are comparison points we can compare to 8th graders in the nation - we did great! But when we compare to ourselves we are finding we still have some work to do.

WE like GROWTH scores vs achievement scores.

At this time I need you all to sign the SIP - please continue to review.

Add your names at the bottom

We have several staffing changes:

Mr. Shell has replaced Ms. Marshall’s position

Mrs. Davis retired and Ms. Bare will be here today - no lapse in coverage

An extra position is allotted to our school - a part time EC teacher position is available at this time.

Extended day teaching happens in the mornings and they meet on Monday and Tuesday mornings. This is only offered to struggling students that scored a 2 or below on the EOG test last year.

Recruitment and registration - registration just closed you should be getting your letters really soon. All Piedmont parents should have a letter stating Piedmont/ 8th grade letters will show your high school options so if you didn’t get your first choice you will know what to do to get your other options.

Now registration will begin in 8th grade through the counselors. The high school reps will come to our school to help students register.

When you register you must register in the school you are assigned to - even if you are on the waiting list…. you will have to re-register if you are admitted into the school of your choice.

There is a lot of information going home with the report cards tomorrow

We will get a letter grade as a school - these scores will be released on Thursday

The report card is coming, but we have to take it for what it is worth. It does not cover all the wonderful things we do here at Piedmont.

Athletics are coming soon…. winter sports are wrapping up and spring sports will begin in late February

Seventh grade - Walk for Africa is school wide - March 20th is the Walk

8th Grade - Outer banks is coming soon

7th Grade Washington DC trip March 25th

The Poverty Simulation is coming and you are invited to join this event

Unfortunately it is on Valentine’s Day and it is a couple hours long - it is a half day.

Perspective on cultural sensitivity issues-The specifics are still being drawn out, so we are looking for what kind of questions should we be asking our families for a survey -where are our alert topics? Is there an issue or is there a race or group that needs a focus/ and there will be a support for the lesbian/ gay and bisexual awareness and who are the experts and who should we be leaning on for support in these areas.

We would run the seminars/ awareness activities through the advisory team

8th grade - are beadies awarded from the elective teachers? - they are given the opportunity, but not all elective teachers turn in names for students to receive the beadies - they can receive a beadie for various reasons - they are given at the end of the school year in the moving on ceremony It is just 8th grade. They do not receive any of them until the end of the school year.

They get a leather strap and a clear bead and a red bead to hold it together

High school programs and students - communities and schools our students are not performing well in Math…. there is a free program through the Central Piedmont Community College - there is a disconnect between high school and college ready.

The program is designed to use actual instruction to supplement - it is free and it would be used as a tool to see where the students are and are they college ready.

If you agree to do the program then you ACTUALLY use it…. Jackie will check into it.

Point person is Bruce Johnson at Central Piedmont

Question about common core - and about power school….

Teachers dismissed at 8:40
