FDLE Tour Kicks Off a Great Year for Association Members

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A capacity crowd of 26 FBI Jacksonville Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association members participated in an in-depth tour of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) facilities in Jacksonville on Wednesday, February 12. Alumni represented academy classes dating back to 2006. The group spent the afternoon immersed with FDLE staff in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Crime Scene Investigation, Evidence, Firearms, Impression Evidence and Latent Fingerprints.

“This was the most engaged and interested group we have ever had tour the lab,” said Dianne McDougall, the group’s guide for the tour.

The diverse variety of backgrounds of the FBIJCAAA membersparticipatinggenerated many insightful and thought-provoking questions. Numerous members provided positive feedback about the tour and the professional staff members of FDLE who provided an opportunity to learn about their craft.

The FDLE tour was the first event in a series planned for 2014 to engage and stimulate the members of FBIJCAAA. The next scheduled event will provide members with a behind-the-scenes look at the operation of EverBank Field from a safety and security perspective. In June, the group will take a tour of the Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), with a focus on safety, security and law enforcement. The final planned event is a tour of the Jacksonville Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in August with a focus on how the city plans, prepares and deals with natural and man-made disasters.

In addition to these events, members will participate in numerous outreach programs to assist in furthering the community’s understanding of the FBI mission. Outreach programs include promoting child safety programs (child ID kits and safe online surfing (SOS) program), the Take 25 Campaign (a parent outreach) and bomb material awareness program at various community functions.
