FCA Swimmers of the Month

(July 2014)

Novice

The final Swimmer of the Month for the 2014 Spring/Summer season has come very far since joining FCA last season. She was faced with the task of learning new strokes and skills, as well as competing with her sister. With grace and a willingness to try, this swimmer has surpassed all expectations. Throughout the season she has continued to improve her strokes, turns, and starts. Her competitive spirit has grown as well.In our final meet of the season, this swimmer competed in six events and managed to improve in a combined effort of 55 seconds. We look forward to her entrance into the Junior I group next season. The Novice coaches congratulate Lara Fernandes as the July Swimmer of the Month!

Junior I

July’s Swimmer of the Month is one of the most helpful, kind, and considerate people you will ever meet. Always smiling, on and off the pool deck, this swimmer has the most positive outlook on life. She always arrives at practice with a drive to learn and improve. In addition, she is always happy to talk with her friends, assist her lane mates, and have a good time. This focus and positive attitude served her well at the LAC Speedo Classic, where she attained six PR's. One impressive habit this swimmer exhibits is asking for advice and feedback after each race. This mature attention to detail will certainly play a role in her continued improvement and will take her far in her swimming career. The Junior I coaches congratulate Charlotte Morales as the July Swimmer of the Month!

Junior II Bronze/Silver

This month’s SOM was an integral part of two record setting relays at Senior Championships. Every single time this swimmer touched the water, he put up a new personal best. With a renewed sense of purpose, he showed exactly what can happen when someone puts their mind to something. He managed to drop over two minutes on his seed times, an incredible feat that saw him move up the ranks at Senior Championships. We are very proud to give July’s Swimmer of the Month to Kyle Tuverson.

Junior II Gold/Senior

There are not a lot of athletes in North America who can sing every song--note for note/word for word--ever recorded by Lady Gaga, identify Penelope Pennywise, swim the 200 Fly in record-breaking time, and smile. If there is anyone on this team that has learned how to whistle while they work, it is this effervescent young man. Not only does he go to all his practices and then some, he always arrives early with something positive to say--to his teammates, to his coaches, sometimes even to his pull buoy! Question: What happens when you can string together a number of hard working days with a positive attitude on a consistent basis? Answer: You can go to the Middle Atlantic Senior Championships, drop time in every one of your events, set 2 team records, and whistle “Heigh Ho” or “The Edge of Glory” on deck. Congratulations and keep it up Elliot Davis, you are the Senior/Gold SOM for July.
