Meetings

  • Our next meeting is Mar. 15th , Rosary at 7:15PM, Business meeting at 7:30.

Lenten Suppers

Our first Lenten Supper, our soup supper, was a complete success. We had a number of people stop by to comment favorably on the taste and presentation of our soups. Our second Lenten meal will be held on March 12th. For this one, we've committed to a spaghetti dinner, with rolls and salad. Bill Phillips will provide a marinara sauce and Bob Marinchick will provide a clam sauce for the spaghetti. Please sign up to help and add those dates to your calendar. Without you we won’t be successful! The supper will begin at 5:30 PM and will precede a movie selected by Fr. Gregory.

A third supper, a fish fry will be held on March 26th at the Methodist Church in Scottsville. This will be our standard fish fry dinner. Please volunteer to help.

Health Care Bill

For a while it looked as if the Health Care Bill was going to be shelved. However, the President wants to resurrect the bill and invite the Republicans to add their proposals. Although the Republicans say they want to start new, the President wishes to continue with the current bill and invite changes from the GOP. According to the President, there are too many good things already contained in the bill to start anew. So, it looks as if the Health Care push will continue. REMEMBER, we have been asked by the Supreme Knight to write to our Senators and Representatives if IT PROVIDES FUNDING FOR ABORTIONS. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ABORTION BE A PART OF THIS BILL!!

Fridays After Five

Soon it will be time to be involved with Fridays After Five, our major fund raiser. This year the Coordinator will again be Bob Neitz. However, since Bob has a demanding job (Fireman) Joe Murray has volunteered to be Bob’s backup should one be needed.

KEGLERS NEEDED (A Kegler is a bowler)

The annual State Bowling Tournament will take place on April 10 & 11 at Kegler’s here in C’ville. Deadline for acceptance of teams, singles, doubles and mixed doubles is March 24. Once all registrations have been accepted, the co-directors will assign times which will be posted before the tournament weekend. Your Grand Knight has the registration forms. Prices are: $100.00 for a four man team; $40.00 for a doubles team, and $20.00 for a single. Checks should be made out to Council 11475 Knights of Columbus, this years host.

May Social

The last social of this year fiscal year will be May 3rd. All outstanding certificates will be awarded at this meeting. The Young Man of the Year and Young Woman of the Year , along with their families will be invited. Please put this date on your calendar and let Bill Phillips know that you plan to attend. For this pot luck dinner, A through K should bring dessert, and L through Z should bring a vegetable dish. As usual, the council will provide the protein dish.

Budget 2010 – 2011

I’ve attached a Budget for Fiscal year 2010 – 2011 that I’ll call for a vote on at the March meeting. Please look it over and be prepared to discuss any entry listed there in.

Obituary

Brother Bob Dorsey lost his battle with cancer on March 5th 2010 A Funeral Mass was scheduled for 12:15 PM on Thursday, March 11th. Internment is at the Holly Memorial Cemetery.

NASCAR Tickets

At the quarterly meeting on Saturday, I was handed an envelop containing 25 NASCAR tickets. Each ticket has two sets of four drivers. So, each ticket can have two winners. It's setup similar to the Football tickets with top 4 sets and bottom 3 sets winning $$$. Each ticket is $10 and the council gets
to keep $2. The first week is April 10, so the $ and unsold tickets must be returned by April 3rd. Each ticket is good for 5 weeks. Since it's such a short time, please bring enough $ with you to the March 15th meeting. Hopefully we'll sell all of them there and be done with it.

Your Shield For Life

The Knights of Columbus has adopted a new theme for its highly successful insurance program. The “Your Shield for Life”theme will debut in the February 2010 issue of Columbia magazine, the monthly publication sent to each of the nearly 1.8 million Knights around the world.

The new symbol – a shield – and the new theme reinforce the standing of Knights of Columbus Insurance as one of North America’s most financially secure life insurance providers. Founded in 1882, the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal benefit society that provides its member families with life insurance, annuities and long-term care insurance for their financial protection. Knights of Columbus Insurance has a long history of financial strength and business integrity. It is one of only three U.S. insurance companies – and the only one in Canada – to receive the top ratings from A.M. Best (A++ Superior) and Standard & Poor’s (AAA Extremely Strong) as well as certification for ethical business practices from the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association (IMSA)
The shield, reminiscent of those carried by medieval knights in sturdy armor, symbolizes the organization’s continued dedication to safeguarding the financial future of its members. With its classic, battle-tested look, the shield embodies the tradition of strength, security and stability that K of C Insurance has offered for more than 125 years.

As our global economy continued to limp along in 2009, and as the life insurance industry saw lower sales and experienced significant investment losses resulting from the prolonged recession, the Knights of Columbus avoided the worst effects while recording record sales.

The best way to learn about our products is by arranging a visit with your local field agent. Your agent can custom design an insurance program to meet your current needs, help you plan for the future or simply explain the many fraternal benefits that come with membership. Contact Mathew today!
