Fast Track to SQL Setup Guide

This document outlines the hardware, software and equipment requirements necessary for configuring and using Fast Track to SQL 200. Refer to this document before you attempt any setup.

Setup Overview

Wizards drive installation and configuration procedures for all of the applications that you need to install. A high-level view of the required components for installation for this course is:

  1. Web browser – Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or better
  2. Macromedia ColdFusion MX Server Developer Edition or higher
  3. Student files executable located on the CD

Prior to installation, you will need to obtain the software applications required to run the course files. Depending on whether you're a student, instructor, training center, or partner, you can obtain the software in one of two ways:

  • Evaluation Software – You can obtain software applications that will last for 30 days before expiring from Macromedia's product download page,
  • Licensed Software – If you are a student, you can install your licensed copy of the software on your machine. If you are a training center or partner, follow the guidelines established by the MATP for acquiring software.

The evaluation version of ColdFusion MX Server Enterprise Edition will turn into the Developer Edition after 30 days.

This section describes how to set up and configure each computer for the Fast Track to SQL 200 course. Set up the computers at least one day prior to the start of the course so that the instructor may load additional software and review the machine configuration before the class starts.

Network Requirements
  • All classroom machines must be networked together.
  • The instructor needs read, write and execute access to one shared directory on a central machine, preferably the instructor machine. All student PC's should have access to this shared directory.
  • Macromedia also strongly suggests that each classroom machine have Internet access.
  • All software needs to be installed under the local administrator account, not a copy or one set up to be an admin account, nor a domain admin account if they are part of a domain.
