FAQ 1: Who is my instructor, and how do I contact the instructor?

  1. Prior to the start of a semester, you can locate the instructor and contact information on the Course Information Cards, available on the Distance Education homepage:

FAQ 2: Do I need books for a distance education course?

  1. Instructors generally require students to use textbooks for their distance education classes. Refer to the instructor's course information cards for information.

FAQ 3: Do I need to come to campus for anything?

  1. This is up to the instructor. You may be required to attend an off-campus event (such as attending a musical performance or an in-class presentation or testing at a testing center).

FAQ 4: Are their online library services available for distance education students?

  1. Yes! Online library services can be accessed using the link:

FAQ 5: How do I log into my WebCT account?
You login to your WebCT account using the last eight digits of your student (C#) number as your WebCT id, and your birth month and year (in this format: mmyy) as your password.

For example, if your student (C#) number is C000123456, enter 00123456 as your WebCT id. Your birth month and year is your password. For example:0785.

  2. Locate the "WebCT Access" link, located under "Quicklinks."
  3. You will be taken to the "Welcome to WebCampus at CCSN" page.
  4. Click on the "Log in to" My WebCT link.
  5. You will be taken to the "Login to WebCampus@CCSN" screen.
  6. Enter the last eight digits of your student (C#) number in the WebCT id box.
  7. Enter your birth month and year in the Password box (remember, use the mmyy format).
  8. Then, click on the "Log in" box.
  9. You will be taken to the "My WebCT" page. All online courses you are registered for are listed on this page.

FAQ 6: How do I access my WebCT courses?

  1. After logging into WebCT, click on each course link (the blue text) listed on the "My WebCT" page.
  2. You will be taken to the course homepage.

FAQ 7: I am unable to login using my student number and password. What could be wrong?

  1. Make sure to double-check that you are entering your WebCT ID (last 8 digits of your student [C#]) and password (your mmyy of birth) correctly.
  2. If your information is entered correctly, and you are an Internet Explorer (IE) user, try the following:
  3. From the IE browser toolbar, select the "Tools" drop-down menu.
  4. From the "Tools" drop-down menu, select "Internet Options."
  5. From the "Internet Options" box, select the "Privacy" tab.
  6. Make sure your cookies are set to "Low." If they are not, drag the slider bar down until you see "Low" displayed.
  7. Then, select "Ok."
  8. Refresh the browser, then try logging in again.
  9. If your information is entered correctly, and you are an AOL user, try the following:
  10. Minimize AOL to your desktop.
  11. Bring up the browser you are using, and login.
  12. If options 2 and 3 do not allow you to login, contact Distance Education (DE) Tech Support at: 651-7340 or .

FAQ 8: When I log into My WebCT account, I am taken to an Internet Optimizer page. What is the problem?

  1. More than likely, you have Spyware on your computer. To remove Spyware, you need to download, install, and run Spybot on your computer.
  2. Spybot is available for a free download at:
  3. Your computer should be checked weekly for Spyware using Spybot.

FAQ 9: I can log into my WebCT course, but cannot access some of the course icons. Why not?

  1. Occasionally, anti-virus software will block access to icons that link to external websites.
  2. Add the WebCT address to the list of trusted sites for your anti-virus software.

FAQ 10: I can see my available quizzes in the Quiz listing, but when I try to access a quiz, it won't open. Why won't it open?

  1. Most likely, you have a pop-up blocker on. Make sure your pop-up blockers are turned off before beginning a quiz.

FAQ 11: Are online tutorial services available?

1.Online tutorial services are available to all students. If you are enrolled in an online course, login to your WebCT account.

2.On the right-hand side of the page, locate the Announcements area.

3.SmartThinking Online Tutoring is available. Follow the instructions to create your account.

4.As a CCSN student, you have 15 hours of free tutoring available (per year).

5.If you are not an online student, but still wish to access your SmarThinking account, please contact the Distance Education office at 651-5619.

6.For SmartThinking tech support, contact 651-5619.

FAQ 12: I need to contact the DE Tech Support. What information do I need to provide?
Please provide the following information to DE Tech Support (for e-mail and phone messages):

  1. Your name
  2. Your student (C#) number.
  3. A detailed description of the problem you are having (for example, WebCT will not accept your WebCT id and password, you are being directed to an Internet Optimizer page, you cannot view your course videos, etc),
  4. A phone number where you can be reached.
  5. Browser and version you are using.
  6. Course name and call number.
  7. Your e-mail address.
