Family tour guide volunteers at Acton Depot

London Transport Museum is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to lead tours for families at Acton Depot, the LTM store. Do you enjoy engaging children and their parents in a variety of ways? Or do you have a passion for the history of London Transport represented by the collections at Acton Depot? Are you keen to work with others to share existing skills and learn new ones?

Who we are looking for

-Ability to interact with people of different ages and backgrounds, including audiences and colleagues

-Interest in developing skills working with family audiences

-A willingness to learn

-A flexible and adaptable approach

-An interest in the work of museums

-Enthusiastic about different interpretive methods

-Confidence in speaking to a group

-Good communication skills, including listening skills

-ONE or BOTH of the following:

-Experience in working with families and children

-Some knowledge of or interest in the collection at LTM Acton Depot

What you could be doing

-Familiarising yourself with objects and vehicles on the tour through a training package

-Delivering agreed elements of the tour as required, interpreting certain items at the Depot

-Using a friendly and patient manner to help families engage with the content

-Working closely with other volunteers to deliver the tours in pairs, sharing and learning skills

-Monitoring health and safety considerations such as reminding families to stay together

-Collecting feedback from families after sessions, taking photos and gathering photo permission forms

We ask that you are available for the following:

  • An informal group interview on Thursday 26 May, 16.30-18.00 at London Transport Museum, Covent Garden
  • Training programme:

Saturday4 June, 12.30-16.00 at Acton Depot

Saturday 11 June, 12.30-16.00 at Acton Depot

Saturday 18 June, 12.30-16.00 at Acton Depot

  • On 3 of the following 9 dates: Saturday 23 July, Monday 25 July, Monday 1 August, Saturday 6 August, Monday 8 August, Monday 15 August, Saturday 22 October, Monday 24 October, Wednesday 26 October

Please note a DBS (CRB) check is required of all successful applicants.
